  1. Informative video. Thanks. There are still a few years to go before the complete cut off for W10 security updates. I will busy myself getting to know Ubuntu.
  2. I can understand the economics behind not having a Linux version of Affinity. But ! Could things change ? I run a nice reliable PC. Z97 Mobo, i74790K CPU home build that falls just short of W11 compatibility. The ASUS Z97 even has TPM 2 ability. For my use a new PC is neither needed or wanted, my machine does everything that I need it to do, as fast as I need it. I have a backup machine almost identical, that is hardly ever used. So between the two, I am going to be good for a number of years, and have no intention of sending them to landfill just so that the Tech companies can make a financial killing. I have a number of spare front bays and have just installed Ubuntu on one of them. If I have to use Ubuntu while online after W10 security updates cease, then so be it. If I have to use Ubuntu exclusively, then so be it. In the intervening years, how many more people are going to take a similar course of action to myself ? This morning I have been looking at some software that claims to enable PC software, to run on Linux/Ubuntu. So. In the future, things at Affinity may change in relation to Linux. Lets hope ! As an afterthought, perhaps Affinity could include something in their script that helps to enable the use of third party software giving compatibility with Ubuntu/Linux ?
  3. I have uninstalled everything and then done a fresh install. All is now OK. So, the issue is resolved and this thread can be deleted. Or left for here for reference. Many thanks to all. Keep sticking it to that greedy lot at Adobe !!
  4. No problems so far. My concern was that it might have been symptomatic of an underlying more serious issue. I will just leave it as it is. Trouble is that little things like this irk me. So, I will probably uninstall and then do a fresh install with version 2 some time in the near future.
  5. This is what I find with your system. I had been looking in Control Panel / Programmes. Notice the file sizes for each version. A bit strange that. I will not uninstall anything yet.
  6. After installing the 3 Affinity programmes from version 1 to version 2. Designer, Publisher, and Photo. I find that I still have all of the Affinity 1 programmes on my PC. Tried to find separate folders to uninstall the old version 1, but unable to do so. Please advise. SidM8
  7. I am using the latest version of Affinity Publisher downloaded yesterday, but this is a problem that I have been wrestling with for some time. At the moment I have a Publisher document for the WEB that has pages measuring 1600px wide X 1200px in landscape. I want to add a number of pages that are 1600px wide X 2400px. Whatever I do, the settings just will not take ? What am I missing or doing wrong ?
  8. Many thanks for the info. I have just downloaded it, and exported the PDF. All OK.
  9. Thanks. I wonder when the patch will arrive.
  10. Thank you Joachim_L. I have never heard of this. pdfLib log ? Can you give me more info ? Exactly what does it do ? Many thanks !
  11. Thanks Jon P. By that I take it you mean the construction of the URL, and not an invalid destination page. I will see if I can check this. I have not had to do this before. Can you say here if there is a dedicated dialogue box for checking that URL's are following the correct URL construction rules? Certainly on the Pre Flight there are a huge number of "Alleged" spelling mistakes, and a number of errors relating to some images. Some of my images are not the best quality, so I just click ignore on the Pre Flight. Same applies to the many unrecognised spellings. Would that be causing the problems today, that were not problems with the previous version of Publisher ?
  12. I was over the moon to get the email from Affinity yesterday telling me about the latest 1.10 updates. As quick as a shot I downloaded the 3 latest versions. My experience with Publisher had already been marred by the way it would slow down and freeze when dealing with larger documents. Last night I only looked at the speed of scrolling etc, and was impressed with the increased performance. That combined with the Editorial telling me that Publisher could now handle documents with "Thousands" of pages and "Gigs" of images, sent me to bed in a very good mood. But, this morning when I tested the speed of exporting to PDF, I got the error message shown below. I have also shown the 2 X pages of export settings that I am using. Can anyone advise me of what the problem might be ?
  13. I still feel chicken !! I checked with Task Manager as you suggested although I don't understand what to take a dump means ? Not in this context anyway. But I did notice that when making any adjustments to my document the RAM/CPU usage would briefly shoot up to 100% So I have changed the programme setting for RAM usage. Perhaps I am momentarily starving other stuff in the background, needed to keep going. I also noticed on my first look at Task Manager, Publisher appeared to be showing it was open X 2 ?? For the present, I will get on with my smaller 20 page project, with the reduced RAM allocation. Sid
  14. Thank you for your reply. Yes, my two machines are very similar, almost the same. I run two machines each using the same model GPU, a GTX 960, Windows 10, and ASUS Z97 Mobo. Both have 32GB of RAM and plenty of available disc space.I have available RAM set to the maximum for the programme. There is a slight variation in the programmes loaded. What I noticed on my number 1 machine, was that the benefits of doing a reinstall gradually lasted for a shorter and shorter period, before it had to be done again. It never did last very long ? It's like something is piling up/clogging up in the background, until it seizes up ?? BUT ! Today, the freezing up problem started on the second machine !! It looks to me as though there is some sort of Project/Memory/Resource limitation affecting the performance. I am going to do a smaller project in Publisher of 20 pages or so, and if all goes OK I will import it into the main publication. I will keep you informed. I am not happy with testing a Beta version of anything. That would require a completely different 3rd machine. Thank you again.
  15. OK thanks for that info. But can you shed any light on what is happening, and why Affinity is freezing up ?
  16. I run two machines each using the same model GPU, a GTX 960, Windows 10, and ASUS Z97 Mobo. Both have 32GB of RAM and plenty of available disc space. I have available RAM set the maximum for the programme. On my main machine I have had a couple of instances of Publisher not behaving as it should. I have solved this by uninstalling and then reinstalling. Now for some reason, I am unable to completely uninstall Affinity from my system ? Recently Publisher has been freezing up Big Time. Once again I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but the benefits were short lived until the problem started all over again. After uninstalling, I now find that I am able to reinstall without entering my licence keys ? I have "Gathered" my Publisher project and transferred it to my second, back up machine, and all seems to be OK. These problems do not seem to be affecting any other programmes, and only occur on one machine. The file that I am working on at present is 133 MB in size, and has just under 200 pages. Does Affinity Publisher have any upper file size limit ? How do I clear Affinity entirely from my system, so that I can do a completely fresh install ? Just going through the usual uninstall procedure, no longer seems to do the job thoroughly.
  17. Could not agree more about the greed of Adobe. I hope that the Affinity people have them quaking in their boots. Decided to get all 3 applications as they were so cheap. Do not regret it one bit ! Just hope that one day they come up with an alternative to DreamWeaver.
  18. I am suddenly unable to export my Publisher document as a PDF. I don't know why this has suddenly started. I have been playing around quite successfully with this project for about 2 weeks now without any problems. Is there an upper page limit or something like that ? After I got this error message a few times I examined the Pre Flight entries. Because there are so many hyperlinks and strange names that the programme flags up as errors, I have just ignored the pre-flight check until now. Contents entries need updating, so click on 'fix' Then I get told that the links on my master pages are invalid ? I also get an error message to tell me that the contents page needs updating, so I have to remake the Anchor, then re link the 3 master pages. No matter which way I do this I am going round in circles just to arrive at the beginning again. Can anyone help with this ?
  19. OK. Thank you. I will check out the YouTube link, but still look forward to the Workbook.
  20. I hope that I have placed this item in the correct category. There does not appear to be a Workbook for Publisher ? Had I not already been familiar with DTP and a few DTP programmes, I would be completely lost. At my very basic level, a Workbook would still be greatly appreciated. I am willing to pay !! Depending on video tutorials that are reliant on bandwidth availability, at your end and mine, is proving infuriating. It's just not working for me. Added to which your online tutorials do not appear to be downloadable, or am I doing something wrong ? There are a number of worthwhile videos on YouTube that can be downloaded. But this solution is still far from the practicality of a Workbook.
