  1. So after 600+ pages of formatting my client's book, they decided they wanted the font size and paper size changed, hence I had to change the margins. I had one master page for text boxes, and after changing the position of those master text boxes, only some of the text frames in my document are repositioned like the master pages. My guess is that because I also used auto-flow text when I ran out of pages rather than adding new pages based on my master, that these text boxes are not influenced by changes in my master? So my question is, is there a way to select multiple text boxes throughout the document and move them rather than "editing detached" every last page and moving text boxes one at a time? Or is there a global edit detached option that unlocks all text boxes? In the picture attached I'm trying to move the text boxes to the new green margins. Thank you, Chris
  2. Thanks @MikeTO! You were right it had something to do with the pinned image. It's been a minute and I forget what the settings were, but as soon as I unpinned it, my issue was resolved. Chris
  3. Hi all, My client noticed some words were missing from her document. I thought I had accidentally cut out some words, but when I reviewed the file, I found that those words are there, but not appearing...I can work around it, but I wanted to know why it happened. Kinda concerning that there may be sentences that are there but don't appear...any insight would be helpful, thanks! Screen Recording 2025-04-23 at 7.49.33 AM.mov
  4. @loukash @MikeTO Hey, thanks for your responses. Good to know there's a workaround. I'll keep in mind for next time. I'm towards the end of the project so I'd rather not mess with it right now.
  5. Is it possible to send an object to the back that has been pinned? Or pin an object that is sent to the back? Screen Recording 2025-04-10 at 6.20.48 PM.mov
  6. I copied and pasted this text from a word document. I can't seem to get rid of this random space within a paragraph. I turned on "show special characters" and I don't see any kind of break. This has happened before with this document. My solution was to delete everything and start again. Now it seems this space is randomly appearing throughout the document. Please help, it's driving me crazy 😫 Screen Recording 2025-03-05 075600.mp4 Mindfulness Workbook.afpub
  7. Hey guys, I'm stumped on this. I cut this image from another page and pasted it here. Now when I go to move it, the cursor turns black. I try pressing escape and at first I'm able to move the image, but then it jumps back to its original spot. Any idea what might be happening? Thanks in advance. Chris Recording 2024-11-06 162237.mp4
  8. Thanks @Old Bruce and @thomaso!
  9. Hello, When I move this text box to this image, the text jumps outside the text box. This is happening to all text boxes that I try to move to any images. Does anyone know what setting I can change so that the text stays in the text box?
  10. Disregard I was able to get it working. It was an iCloud Drive sync setting that I needed to turn on. Thanks for your help!
  11. Thank you. I did that and restarted my laptop but still same issue.
  12. Hello, I've been working on this project on an Intel MacBook Pro for several months with no issues. I recently got an M1 MacBook PRO, downloaded the latest version of Publisher 1, and now I can't seem to save my file now. It freezes when saving. Is there something that can be causing this? The same file was working fine with my previous laptop.
  13. Thanks Hangman! The baseline was off for whatever reason on that spread and has been fixed 😃
  14. Hi, Has anyone come across this? In my 180 page document on Affinity publisher it's only this one spread that has text outside the box. I found a way to make it not look so clumsy, but wondering what may have triggered this?
  15. I tried it just now and applying paragraph styles while preserving character formatting keeps the imported text's font as well. I just wanted to preserve italicized and bolded words, not the font. Is there not an easy way to do that?
  16. Thanks for the link to the Help. I think preserve character formatting will work for my book projects. And it seems that you can set this behavior by default. That would make things way easier! I really didn't want to revert back to Indesign. So long as this works I think I will continue with Publisher. Thanks for saving me some money!
  17. Thanks for the tip Walt. My concern is that choosing preserve character formatting vs preserve local formatting will not preserve everything that needs to be preserved. Seems like I’d have to experiment with that. I’d be willing to try that for a smaller project.
  18. I’ve been using affinity publisher but am going back to indesign for future projects. I’ve used both for 2 years each, and I love publisher, but there are 2 things which make it not practical for my workflow. when applying character or paragraph styles to imported text, it overrides formatting of the imported text such as italicized and bolded words/sentences. The workaround is to search and replace the imported text for all instances of italicized and bolded instances and set them to an italicized/bolded character style first. Very tedious. And though I did that for a recent 360 page project, I missed a few things that should have been italicized. also there’s no feature to prevent one word lines in paragraphs. You have to manually look at each paragraph and adjust things to prevent that. for these two reasons I’m moving back to indesign to save myself time and worry. I would go back to publisher if these 2 items were addressed.
  19. Well I want to apply the "italic" character style to these italicized words. But to do that I don't want to manually search for the italicized words. The find and replace shows me a list of the italicized words but doesn't take me to their location when I click on it, except for the first italicized word on the list. My workaround is to screenshot the list, then clear the find and replace fields, then individually find each item on the screenshot list.
  20. Hello, I'm trying to find and replace all italicized words from a copied and pasted word document. My goal is to apply the italicized character style to the italicized words so that when I apply paragraph styles, the italicized words will remain italicized. However, it seems that the find and replace function only highlights the first instance of an italicized word. Clicking on the others does not take me to that page and the highlighted area does not move. So I have to manually find these italicized words which is getting tedious (this is one of many chapters). Any ideas on what I might not be doing correctly? In the gear icon, I have "regular expression" checked, though I tried the others and arrive at same issue. In the gear icon -> format menu, I have "italicized" checked. Below are some screen shots. Thanks everyone for your expertise! Chris
  21. I am having this same issue. I change gradient overlays on objects dozens of times. After about 3 or 4 changes, I can select the gradient overlay, but I can't click onto the gradient itself to change the colors. I'm running Big Sur. It resolves after I quit the program and restart.
  22. @LibreTrainingThanks! I'm going to send to KDP for a test print, should work out fine *fingers crossed*
  23. Thanks for the info and responses everyone. Attached are a couple pages from the exact pdf I sent to the printers. I exported my file using "pdf for print." I sent it to thebookpatch.com. I send my stuff there prior to KDP as I can get a proof back quicker. I printed the file myself and there were no issues, so I'm thinking it has to be their printer. I brought it to their attention and they said "Since we use digital printers they can be quite sensitive, especially if the font used is a specialized kind. That is why all the titles are printed that way." They recommended I export as pdf/x. Hoping that will fix the issue. I downloaded the font from Google fonts. Not sure if it makes a difference but I use Fontbase to manage my fonts. aob temp 2.pdf
