  1. Disregard I was able to get it working. It was an iCloud Drive sync setting that I needed to turn on. Thanks for your help!
  2. Thank you. I did that and restarted my laptop but still same issue.
  3. Hello, I've been working on this project on an Intel MacBook Pro for several months with no issues. I recently got an M1 MacBook PRO, downloaded the latest version of Publisher 1, and now I can't seem to save my file now. It freezes when saving. Is there something that can be causing this? The same file was working fine with my previous laptop.
  4. Thanks Hangman! The baseline was off for whatever reason on that spread and has been fixed 😃
  5. Hi, Has anyone come across this? In my 180 page document on Affinity publisher it's only this one spread that has text outside the box. I found a way to make it not look so clumsy, but wondering what may have triggered this?
  6. I tried it just now and applying paragraph styles while preserving character formatting keeps the imported text's font as well. I just wanted to preserve italicized and bolded words, not the font. Is there not an easy way to do that?
  7. Thanks for the link to the Help. I think preserve character formatting will work for my book projects. And it seems that you can set this behavior by default. That would make things way easier! I really didn't want to revert back to Indesign. So long as this works I think I will continue with Publisher. Thanks for saving me some money!
  8. Thanks for the tip Walt. My concern is that choosing preserve character formatting vs preserve local formatting will not preserve everything that needs to be preserved. Seems like I’d have to experiment with that. I’d be willing to try that for a smaller project.
  9. I’ve been using affinity publisher but am going back to indesign for future projects. I’ve used both for 2 years each, and I love publisher, but there are 2 things which make it not practical for my workflow. when applying character or paragraph styles to imported text, it overrides formatting of the imported text such as italicized and bolded words/sentences. The workaround is to search and replace the imported text for all instances of italicized and bolded instances and set them to an italicized/bolded character style first. Very tedious. And though I did that for a recent 360 page project, I missed a few things that should have been italicized. also there’s no feature to prevent one word lines in paragraphs. You have to manually look at each paragraph and adjust things to prevent that. for these two reasons I’m moving back to indesign to save myself time and worry. I would go back to publisher if these 2 items were addressed.
  10. Well I want to apply the "italic" character style to these italicized words. But to do that I don't want to manually search for the italicized words. The find and replace shows me a list of the italicized words but doesn't take me to their location when I click on it, except for the first italicized word on the list. My workaround is to screenshot the list, then clear the find and replace fields, then individually find each item on the screenshot list.
  11. Hello, I'm trying to find and replace all italicized words from a copied and pasted word document. My goal is to apply the italicized character style to the italicized words so that when I apply paragraph styles, the italicized words will remain italicized. However, it seems that the find and replace function only highlights the first instance of an italicized word. Clicking on the others does not take me to that page and the highlighted area does not move. So I have to manually find these italicized words which is getting tedious (this is one of many chapters). Any ideas on what I might not be doing correctly? In the gear icon, I have "regular expression" checked, though I tried the others and arrive at same issue. In the gear icon -> format menu, I have "italicized" checked. Below are some screen shots. Thanks everyone for your expertise! Chris
  12. I am having this same issue. I change gradient overlays on objects dozens of times. After about 3 or 4 changes, I can select the gradient overlay, but I can't click onto the gradient itself to change the colors. I'm running Big Sur. It resolves after I quit the program and restart.
  13. @LibreTrainingThanks! I'm going to send to KDP for a test print, should work out fine *fingers crossed*
  14. Thanks for the info and responses everyone. Attached are a couple pages from the exact pdf I sent to the printers. I exported my file using "pdf for print." I sent it to thebookpatch.com. I send my stuff there prior to KDP as I can get a proof back quicker. I printed the file myself and there were no issues, so I'm thinking it has to be their printer. I brought it to their attention and they said "Since we use digital printers they can be quite sensitive, especially if the font used is a specialized kind. That is why all the titles are printed that way." They recommended I export as pdf/x. Hoping that will fix the issue. I downloaded the font from Google fonts. Not sure if it makes a difference but I use Fontbase to manage my fonts. aob temp 2.pdf
  15. Hello, I recently sent a pdf to a printer. I reviewed the pdf and it was fine, however when I received the book, all of the fonts that were headers turned out strangely. I was told to save the file as pdf/x so that it embeds the fonts. My question is which pdf/x do i use as publisher has pdf/x-1 and pdf/x-3. There's also a pdf(flatten) which seems like it would work too. Attached is the font issue. The font is Lato. Thanks!
  16. Are you using the latest release version? Yes, using 1.9.3 Can you reproduce it? Yes. Does it happen for a new document? If not do you have a document you can share that shows the problem? Yes, file uploaded. If you cannot provide a sample document then please give an accurate description of the problem for example it should include most of the following: Attempting to apply Chapter 1 master pages to specific pages but it crashes. What is your operating system and version Mac OS Big Sur 11.4 (however I had similar issue in Windows 10 when I owned a PC back in 2019 - 2020 What happened for you (and what you expected to happen): Applying Chapter 1 master to specific page range = crash Provide a recipe for creating the problem (step-by-step what you did). Right click Chapter 1 master Apply master to pages selected range crashes (when "replace existing" is checked) Screenshots (very handy) or a screen capture/video. Any unusual hardware (like tablets or external monitors or drives that may affect things) or relevant other applications like font managers or display managers. Did this same thing used to work and if so have you changed anything recently? (software or hardware) 2046079969_ScreenRecording2021-07-15at10_01_42PM.mov Ambush of Betrayal 7.9.21.afpub
  17. Thanks everyone, I see where it is now. I've been using text styles (instead of paragraph styles) this whole time, thinking it was just Affinity's name for paragraph styles. What is the benefit of having text style and character style and paragraph style? If I was using Indesign correctly in the past, it only had paragraph style and character style.
  18. Hello, has anyone found a workaround for this? When applying master "chapter 1" to several pages, the app crashes. I remember this was an issue in 2020 as well. Back then, it crashed before I could even release the mouse button. Now at least it waits for me to release the mouse button. Attached files for reference. Thanks, Chris
  19. I checked there and it wasn't available. Went with a different font. Thanks for replying though!
  20. Hello, I'm using EB Garamond for my project. When I italicize a paragraph, it gives me this annoying 'e' variant (see pic). I can get rid of it by going to typography and deselecting "final forms" under "word position forms." But I don't want to do this manually for every single paragraph...In looking through the Text Styles, I don't see a similar option under typography. Is it listed as something else? Is there another way to get rid of the variant using text styles? Thanks!
  21. Yes, it worked! Thanks @Pšenda, you just saved me a boatload of time and headache!! @h_dI'm sure you're tips will come in handy as well as I move through this project!
  22. I received a document where there is a single space in front of each new paragraph. Is there a way to get rid of these automatically rather than hitting backspace at the start of each paragraph? I googled it and found this formula: ^\s+? but I'm assuming it's for Indesign as it didn't work in Publisher. Thanks!
  23. Hi all, I've been searching and there doesn't appear to be an automatic fix for runts. I know about preventing orphaned and widowed lines in the paragraph panel. Is there any check box for preventing single word lines? Pretty sure there isn't; will have to manually adjust these, but wanted to be sure. Thanks!
