Hi everyone, I am new to affinity photo and using masking for the first time referring to youtube videos.

I am facing two problems

1) When I add mask and start using paint brush there is no change even after changing the color of brush,

and when I invert the mask only white brush work independent of the color of brush i chose.

2) I am unable to select child layer only  directly by clicking at it when I do so the parent layer also get selected,

though I figured out the way to select child layer only, but its not user friendly.

Any suggestions to fix the masking issue will be really helpful.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

You only paint with black and white on a mask layer, one revels and the other takes away, vice versa if you have inverted the mask to black. To know if you have the mask selected (by clicking on the mask thumbnail)  it should have a white outline around it,  hard to see if the mask is white but click between the thumbnails and you'll notice a slight difference

Here is a useful tutorial to learn about the different masks: Affinity Photo - Beginners Look At Layer Masks
