As a bit of an old school Photoshop user and retoucher, a method I've always used to cut out something from the background of a photo is to duplicate a channel with the right amount of contrast of foreground and background subject, apply layers to the channel, then use the dodge and burn tools and black and white brushes to edit the mask itself. That way I have fine control over the final mask and selection I require.

I can't currently see a way to do this in Affinity Photo and it would be good to be able to do so as it's a technique that's used a lot in the photoshop world. Again this maybe an old school manual way of doing things but I've never really liked used selection brushes to get a rough selection and then refine from there, I always disliked it in photoshop and still not 100% on using it in Affinity Photo. I like a bit of manual labour when it comes to make really nice masks and selections as mad as that may seem.

So is this something you may implement as in duplicating channels and being able to edit channels directly in the Channel palette?
