Cutting / erasing based on a custom shape

Recommended Posts

Hi!

Can anyone please help me with the following task.

There are 3 layers:
1.    Photo of a person with light background;
2.    Texture, which is of the same size as layer #1;
3.    Some cut-out, for instance, of a cat.

The effect that I would like to achieve, is that there would be “hole” of a shape of layer #3 in the layer #1, so that layer #2 would “shine” through this “hole”.

Would you please help me out!? :-)

Thanks so much!

OK, I'm giving an answer to me myself.

1. All layers in the Layers tab need to be ordered from 1 to 3.
2. In the Layer tab drag and drop layer #3 (cat's shape) over layer #2 (texture).
     NOTE: drag layer #3 close to the thumbnail of layer #2; it's different then just simply dragging and dropping it anywhere!
3. Rearrange layers so that layer #2 is in the front.
4. Voilà!

You are welcome! :-)
