Same RGB values, 4 different colours...

Recommended Posts

I am trying to design some assets for mobile devices, where the best practice is to use the 'Monitor Colour - Display' colour profile, which as I understand it is equivalent to turning off colour management.

When I assign a RGB colour directly to a shape (using the sliders in the colour picker), the same colour is displayed incorrectly (and indeed differently) in several parts of the UI.

When the shape is exported (again with display profile) and opened in Photoshop, it does actually match the RGB values previously used.

I have verified the colour values using Apple's digital colour meter app.  This is in the latest released version of the app.  Colour format is RGB/8 and the profile is 'Display'

I have attached an image which shows a rectangle shape, which is different from the colour displayed in the colour well, which is different from the colour in the layer thumbnail.  All three colours are incorrect (see the RGB slider values in the image).

Am I missing something, or is this a bug?

No problem, thanks for the quick feedback.

I'm really enjoying using Affinity Designer, and once the colour space issues are sorted, I can make it part of my workflow.

This is an impressive piece of software for a very reasonable price (let's hope this pricing model catches on with the rest of the industry).

Unfortunately, the latest beta doesn't fix this for me.  In 'Display" colour profile.

For a colour entered directly into the colour picker (by value)

R:11 G:197 B:229

The colour chips (circle in the colour picker and rectangular in the fill colour) are R:12 G:197 B:229 (which to be fair is only 1 out on one of the values)

but the object on the screen (again, using Apple's digital colour meter) is...

R:44 G:197 B:232

Which is not the same colour at all.

I have attached a very simple test file

If I set my OS display profile to be sRGB then all values match - we've simply set the display's profile incorrectly and we can fix this easily for the next beta. Thanks for letting us know, and sorry for the inconvenience this causes you in the interim.
