Surface Pro 4. I5 or I7 with 8 GB Ram for Affinity Photo

Recommended Posts

I know several of the staff at Serif are using the Surface Pro 4 tablet. I am looking to buy either the I5 or I7 model with 8 GB Ram having just returned the Wacom Mobilestudio Pro 13 that I bought before Christmas.

For use with Affinity Photo, is there a noticeable performance difference between the I5 and I7 when using Affinity Photo with multilayered files. Some of my Photoshop PSD files are over 1 GB in size

Many thanks

Hi ostonica,

I don't have the comparison experience on my own, but I can tell you why I didn't go for the i7: in contrast, to the - various - desktop family of processors afaik the i7 is "just" an i5 with higher frequencies. You don't get more real or virtual cores or other features relevant for your usage scenario.

And an top when you do high duty stuff the i7 will be very likely throttled anyway thereby coming even closer to the i5 in practice.

Many thanks, affinian. That's helpful.

I wonder if the different GPU make a difference as far as Affinity Photo is concerned. The I7 models have Intel Iris graphics 540 and the I5 have Intel HD graphics 520.

I hope some of the AffinityPhoto engineers chime in with their experiences.
