Open a file with assigned color profile (Affinity Photo Windows)?

Recommended Posts

Dear Affinity team,

I am really glad to see Affinity Photo on Windows released and purchased it once I knew it.

Thanks for your hard and great work.

However, I have some questions about the color profile.

When I opened a jpeg file without a profile, it was opened with sRGB IEC61699-2.1, instead of the one from my monitor calibration.

I did set up the profile I want in "Edit"->"Preferences"->"Colour" (screen shot attached), but that doesn't solve this problem.

I could "Assign ICC Profile" whenever I open a file, but I wish I could have that (open with specific profile assigned) set as default.

Please tell me how I could solve the problem.

Thank you very much :).

Best regards,

Sleepy

When opening a file without embedded colour profile, the best guess an application can make is assuming it is in sRGB.

The profiles you have set in the preferences are not RGB color spaces but your monitors calibration profile. You should set an RGB color space like sRGB,AdobeRGB or ProfotoRGB.

The application uses your monitor calibration profile to correctly display the colours on your monitor.

Thanks for your reply, Thomas_A.

However, no matter what RGB color space I set in preferences, the photo opened in Affinity Photo will look different (in terms of color) from other programs (Windows Photo, Xnview, PhotoShop, etc) until I Assign ICC Profile (monitor calibration profile) to that photo.

Is there any way to make photos opened in Affinity Photo look the same (in terms of color) as other programs whenever I open them?

Thank you very much :)
