I have an image I was working on and found that after cutting out and placing a pixel layer in my composite image, adjustments no longer can be made to either the background layer or pixel layers above the background. Why is this and is there a workaround?

Hope I'm doing something wrong and I can get some help here.

Found out that the layer area to be adjusted needs to be re-selected. Alternatively the entire layer can be (re-)selected entirely if an adjustment is to be done to the layer (Lighting). Is there a way to save this action non-destructively as a selection layer. The section dots do not seem to be able to be hidden.
