DavidMKelly Posted January 13 Posted January 13 With the ongoing putrefaction of the Windows environment, I'm seriously looking at switching to Linux. I've seen many other fairly prominent people looking to do the same. I'd really love to carry on using the Affinity suite, and think a Linux version would be great. I know it's a tall ask, but hope this will be considered. laurent357 1
Snapseed Posted January 13 Posted January 13 On numerous occasions, Serif Europe has said that there is zero chance of a Linux version not least because of Linux's low desktop market share. Unless Linux magically gets a 14% desktop market share like macOS then it is just not going to happen, period. If you want to use the Affinity range of products on a Linux computer then use them in a Windows VM as per Hartmut Doering's helpful instructions below: PhotoLine (an Affinity Photo equivalent) can be used with Wine on Linux plus there's online Photopea as well. Just for the record, I am a full time Linux user (Ubuntu Mate) and I currently use Pixeluvo for my image and photo editing.
laurent357 Posted January 13 Posted January 13 My apologies, english is not my native tongue ... Hello, I'm a graphic designer working on the development of real-time 3D applications (video games, simulators, WebGL applications, etc.). I'm also a teacher. I've been using your software suite (Photo, Designer and Publisher) intensively for 1 year now. It has all the essential elements I need and has made me completely abandon the Adobe suite. I highly recommend your software suite to my students. I'm in the process of setting up my own business and I'm thinking of switching my workflow to Linux. However, your suite lacks one big advantage: it doesn't exist in a Linux version! It's possible to install your applications under Wine, but it's very complicated to do and it doesn't run smoothly. So it's not a viable solution! A Windows virtual machine running Linux is the solution I use. However, this reduces the performance of your software. All the software I use (Blender, Godot, Unity 3D, etc.) exists on Linux! It's annoying that yours aren't on the list! A native Linux version of all your software would be so much more comfortable ... You should know that I'm talking about this port in my circle of friends and that it would make a lot of people very happy! Best regards. Snapseed 1
