I thought I knew what I was doing, but I laid out the whole book and now cant set up the TOC or BOOK. TOC panel is greyed out so I created chapter title style with name CHAPTER
TITLE. And then tried to select the nearly finished affinity publisher file unsuccessfully.  How do I backtrack on this? Also I have 2 levels of chapters ie. Section and articles.

Hi @Deb Perugi Most of the TOC panel will be greyed out when the text cursor is not positioned in a TOC.

To create a TOC, position the cursor where you want it to appear (ideally in its own text frame to make it easier to update) and then click the Insert button in the TOC panel - this button will not be greyed out. You can also choose Text > Table of Contents > Insert Table of Contents to do the same thing.

Publisher will automatically add headings formatted with Heading 1, 2, 3 (or their equivalents in other languages). If you have used custom heading names, you will have to select which headings to include by selecting the checkboxes beside them in the TOC panel. If you do this, ensure you click the options icon to the right of the style name and select "Include Page Number" if it's not already selected, and set Indent Level to 1 for a level 1 heading, to 2 for a level 2 heading, etc.

Good luck
