Why is this happening when I edit

Everytime i edit, the editing feature doesn't work like when I try paint, the only thing that happens is that i am dragging the image around. Been happening for ages and can't fix it without having to reopen the image

Which “editing feature”? There are lots of “editing features” and some aren’t in each application and some work differently across the different applications.

Can you give us more specific information about:

1. which application you are using;
2. what you have in your document;
3. what you want to do with it;
4. what you are doing with it, and;
5. how the result doesn’t match what you were expecting?

It is often useful to supply full-screen screenshots, and/or documents, and/or full-screen videos so we have a better idea of what’s going on.
