Basti1991 Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 Hi there, as I did not stumble upon this topic in the FAQ I wanted to ask you for help. in Designer I am creating a figure for a scientific presentation and for that I need to include chemical formulars. The issue that I have is, that I need to write Text in the grafical text boxes with letters in standard form but also with the possibility in the same grafical text box to write in lowered letters. One example of such chemical formula would be Li2CO3 (numbers need to be lowered in order to write scientifically correct). Can you help me with this issue? Quote
MikeTO Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 You could: Use Character panel > Position & Transform > Subscript - this will almost certainly make the numbers too small Use Typography panel > Figure Position > Subscript - this may not be available for the font you want to use and it might make the numbers too small Or make it appear exactly as you want by scaling the font size for the number and setting Character panel > Position & Transform > Baseline to a negative value to move it below the baseline. Doing this might result in a number that it too thin relative to the surrounding characters but if you use a variable font (or a font with a decent number of weights), you could adjust the stroke width to the desired value. I would create a character style for this so that you could apply it whenever you need to. Basti1991 Posted December 11, 2024 Author Posted December 11, 2024 I will give the character style a chance. Thanks a lot for the fast reply! It is very welcome, as I need the figure for my PhD defense talk. Quote
MikeTO Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 I've never done this myself but I created a test and it worked fine. I googled to see if there were specific fonts designed for this, with the numbers already scaled and descended, but it seems most people use Helvetica or Arial. However, there might be fonts designed for this, I didn't look too hard.
