Himage_2024-10-10_145718518.png.2f4f9ae4bc8e89ddeaed5feab49c4366.pngello there, I've finally decided to move onto Affinity after Adobe's 'downfall' and everything is perfect except for one thing.

I've noticed that Affinity Photo and Designer both has a sub-brush setting for brushes, which is great. However, I believe that there is one critical setting missing that would make brush-creating/editing as perfect as other competitors (such as Photoshop and Procreate). This is a feature most Photoshop users are known with, called: the dual brush. This setting allows one brush (either the actual brush or the dual brush, depending on the size of the dual brush) to turn into a mask for the other brush.

Note: The demonstration on the right is done using Photoshop's most used dual brush blending mode: multiply.

You might wonder how Affinity's sub brush differentiates from this. Well let me explain:

Affinity's sub-brushes are only adding or erasing from the current brush. So you'll always see the current brush underneath it, no matter what blending mode you're using (Trust me, I've tried it). The demonstration beneath are Affinity's current sub brush settings (apart from the blending modes that have minimal impact compared to my suggestion): blend and erase. image_2024-10-10_151436111.thumb.png.710635ff849256cf658c745e567a06a4.png

All in all, I think Affinity's sub-brush is an excellent feature for a good painting program. But I think that implementing a feature like Photoshop's dual brush setting will make creating brushes even easier and more attractive to everyone.
