I want to be able to achieve the following without using a new layer for every group, if possible.

Using the cog, mainly, I've made a "flower" by using three differently coloured cogs aligned on top of each other and rotated slightly. On top of them is a 3D ellipse to represent the flower centre. These four objects have been grouped together and copied to make a "flower bed".

Then I've taken one of the "flowers" and changed the colours and tGarden 3.afdesignhe fills, then populated my "flower bed" again.

But my last version isn't grouping properly. I can stack my three cogs of petals and put the 3D flower centre on the top but as soon as I group the "flower" together, the 3D ellipse is demoted in the stack.

I would attach a file but just realised that I'm typing this on my Win7 computer whilst moving flowers around on my Mac........give us a mo!

the red line points to the group that won't stack properly.
