scottqmarcus Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 I have a few clipart subscriptions. Periodically, I'll download an .eps file that has a grid behind it to represent that the image has a transparent background. How do I get rid of that once I download it? I'm told you can do that with Adobe products. I'm assuming it's the same here. I've tried deleting the background layer but that doesn't really do it either. I've attached 2 screenshots to show what I mean and to show what happens when I remove the background layer. (The white one is the one AFTER I've removed the background.) Thank you. I've spent a lot of time trying to figure this out to no avail. Quote

That's crap and not the (aka a) real transparent usable EPS image then (not worth the effords). - Seen something like that often on freepik for so called (unusable) eps images. - You better look after some other vector image sources! scottqmarcus Posted June 24, 2023 Author Posted June 24, 2023 Thanks; I wondered about that. And yes, one of the subs I have is freepik (which has lots of images that are called .eps but are really rasterized, which drives me nuts). That said, it seems to happen with others too. Quote
v_kyr Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 Further the .eps file format initially does not support transparency. Though when you save and reopen an .eps file in Illustrator you are actually dealing with a conjoined twin file consisting of a native .ai part (which supports transparency) and some EPS data. The later is something (AFAIK) Affinity can't handle and doesn't deal with, so one better uses a different file format. Thus instead and offered using PDF is here the safe way to go most of the time.
