I want to snap line or object nodes to other lines or object nodes. I would like to be able to do this with the move tool, but it seems like the only way to do this is with the node tool. Is that correct?

A current example: I have a shape/curve with some corners and straight lines. I want to snap a line (curve, created with the pen tool as a straight line) to the shape. In order to do that, I have to zoom out, select the line, switch to the node tool, select both nodes on the line, then move them all using the node tool to snap as I want. When I use the move tool, it snaps to other stuff, like the bounding box or center points of various things on my canvas. Why aren't nodes part of the snapping options when using the move tool?

Since you are using Designer, have you tried using the Point Transform Tool, rather than the Move Tool?
The ‘translate’ functionality (maybe via a modifier key, see the Status Bar) of the Point Transform Tool sounds like what you need.
