Hi guys,

Recently got a fancy macbook to brush up my digital skills and hoping Affinity will fit my needs. I learned Indesign in college so I've opted for a trial of Publisher. Right now I only need it for basic (by professional standards) social media graphics and if I start to feel bold I might try some newspaper/magazine stuff.

However I have encountered an insurmountable problem: I'm not instantly good at it.

I'm wondering if there is an easy way to mimic the gradient of an image and apply it to text? I've been able to create a colour palette based on the images I've already added to my project but I'm not sure how to apply it to the text I'm trying to jazz up.

Also, I'm having some trouble with the linear gradients in the fill options. It seems the only option is a horizontal gradient and I want it to be vertical. I did see a forum post here somewhere showing that you can move the nodes around to make it vertical but for the life of me I can't get it to work (I've tried holding shift and clicking and all that.)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @Connor622, and welcome to the forums!

You can have non-horizontal gradients applied only within Artistic text. For paragraph text frames, there are several posts suggesting workarounds, see e.g. this one:

Thanks. Any idea about copying the gradient of an image?
