I'm a iMac user (Mac OS Monterey 12.3.1) and new to Affinity Photo (Version 1.10.5), but quite experienced with Photoshop. I'm using a Mac Keyboard, Mac TrackPad and Wacom Intuos Pro. No matter what input device I'm using it's always the same problem as mentioned below.

Right now I realized a serious text tool problem. Whenever I start typing it starts fine, but as soon as I'm typing an h or H (no matter whether I'm using capital letter or not) the Text Tool immediately is switching to the Hand Tool. Similar things happen when I'm using an i or m.

I have no idea why, but it seems while typing my text the program is reading this letters as Short Cuts.

Is this a setting problem from my side or a bug between Affinity and iMac?

I would appreciate a quick response, because it makes my workflow extremely complicated.

Thanks and Best Regards

Ursula

Hello and welcome!

  • When typing in new text make sure that the corresponding text layer is active selected and you use the coresponding selected text or frame text tool (the text cursor must be shown then when you are in text input/edit mode.
  • With activated move (arrow) tool, double-click on text, in oder activate the text edit mode. You will see that you're in text input/editing mode if the text cursor appears inside the blue text rect for editing/inserting.
  • When you use the move (arrow) tool and do only click once on a text portion, then the text will be framed/selected blue but you're not in text edit mode. Typing now a "h" or "H" doesn't insert text, instead here when typing now "h" the hand tool keyb-shortcut will be activated/triggered and the tool switches to the hand tool. - So with the active move (arrow) tool always click twice (double-click) on a shown text portion in order activate the text edit/input mode then (you will see it if the text cursor appears).
  • With the hand tool you can't activate any text input mode on text, just with the move tool via double-clicking on available text, or via one of the text tools to edit available text or insert new text.
