Overprinting from external file (pdf)

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody
I just installed the Affinity suite to see if it could be possible for my company to partially switch to it coming from the Adobe Suite. And I don’t want to be Adobe 100% dependant.

Like everybody here, I have specifics needs. The mains ones are overprinting and the size (in centimeters) of our files.

-In Designer, I want to import a PDF who is coming from a GIS software witch contain many overprint objects and not just text.

I can see the overprint in the PDF file opened in Adobe Acrobat/Reader

I can't see the overprint in the PDF file opened in Designer.

Do I have to click somewhere to make it appear ? Does it existe ? I looked everywhere and couldn't find. It does existe in Adobe Illustrator.

I have to say that I don't want to res-select all and apply specific fusion mode.

-File size is also an issue

the maps I print can have wide dimensions (100x143cm). With lots of objects (roads an all and a lot of toponyms)

Designer has no issue to open small files but it is getting problematic when the size is getting bigger as you can see above

Thanks for taking the time to read me

Thanks for your answer.

I saw the many helpful possibilities for selection.
But in Designer, how can I see the overprint coming from an external file ? In the pictures I previously posted you can see the transparency in the yellow in AI and I did nothing in this software. It was implemented in my GIS.

As for my big files, AD has can not deal with lot of text objects.

I generated the same area in a much smaller size (20x20cm) and everything was fine (excepted for the overprint)

Ohhh that's too bad... And yes, I have two yellow, but I can have red or different green and other, depending of the scale and the subject of my map.

As you said, it can be tedious but also risky.

Any ideas about my font problem ?

I have a last question. Do you know if it is possible to knock down a specific color and not the others ?

Thanks a lot. It will help when I will be there.

I realize that I wasn't clear in my previous question.

Is it possible to knock out black with an other color without knocking out the other colors ? Like around the P and d, you can see that the black of the road knocked out but not the orange.
