alain mts
Hello, I'm trying to create a displacement map. I use this in a lot of video editors, but here in Affinity Photo it doesn't work (or I don't understand it any more). I use version 1.9.0.9132 I've tried everything like 8bit 16bit 32bitHDR, rasterize layer, parent and child layers swapped, colours adjusting... but nothing works! Can you help me please? GarryP
Welcome to the forums @alain mts I don’t use Displacement Maps much myself but I found this video useful: I used some of those techniques a while ago to produce something partially-decent:
alain mts
Thank you @GarryP for your post. I had seen this video before I wrote this post, but it doesn't work by me! You can see on my image white/black gradient colors. The layer above is the capital O. With a displacement tool, the pixels of the letter O should be shifted less or more depending on the color underneath. Whiter means more distortion of the letter O. You can be clear that this is not the case here! (first post). I think it should be like on the drawing below! GarryP
Unfortunately I don’t understand enough about the displacement functionality to be able to help much further. I just played around with it for a while and have forgotten most of what I did – I really should write a lot of this stuff down. However, I’m sure one of the experts in the forums will be able to help if they see this thread.
