I've just tried this in AffPub 1.7.3 and 1.8.2.  I created a text frame with specific size, wrapping properties, and placeholder content and tried to save it as an asset.  (Yes, there was a category with a subcategory.)  Using Add From Selection from the subcategory hamburger menu quietly does nothing.  Trying to drag from the page just drags the frame around.  Trying to drag from the Layers panel gives me a "no" (circle with slash) cursor when the drag reaches the Assets panel.

Then I tried the whole process again with an empty picture frame.  Same results.  At this point, I was wondering if saving frames as assets was supported in Publisher.  So I tried once more, with a simple curve.  Same results.  Tried with and without a master page applied to the current page.  Same results.  OK, this is clearly a bug, but equally clearly it's not affecting most people.

I tried adding some assets in AffDes 1.7.3 and AffPho 1.7.3  and it worked like a charm.  So my issue is related to Publisher specifically.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this?   It does not seem to be document related, as I get the same behavior in a brand new document created in a fresh launch of AffPub.

Would you be able to provide a video/GIF of this happening? Or, at the very least, a full-screen screen grab showing both the Assets Panel and Layers Panel before you use “Add From Selection” and after?
As you can see from my attached video, it’s working fine for me on Windows with 1.8.2.620.

haakoo, that's it!  The assets were being added after all, but not displayed.  (Triangle to the right, not down)   Big sigh of relief here.

Prior to making the video, I had in fact tried to make quite a few non-transparent assets, as I was aware of the "invisible thumbnail" issue.  I wish the Assets panel highlighted each asset as you moused over them, to make it clear there's something there.

[Added in edit]  Still cannot drag from the Layers panel, regardless of the subcategory twiddle triangle setting.  But I don't need to do that.
