@reglico thanks. I will be honest, I "do" sometimes forget that I need to Expand To Stroke, thanks I think I got it now everyone. Thanks "SO" much for all the input. I hope this helps anyone else that may run into the same things I did -

@dutchshader gotcha. Hey thanks I think that pretty much was my problem, thinking i could break strokes with the Subtract function. Now I see I cant. -

so when you say closed, do you mean....So lets say I make a Octagon shape with my pen tool. Remove the fill and just have the stroke. The stroke "is" closed. But do you mean it has to be "filled" in order to use those functions? https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cqfYFUZuZl -

hey thanks just saw your video @dutchshaderthat's a pretty cool way to do that, but is that the "only" way? I'm starting to think, that I've had the wrong interpretation of the Add, Subtract, Divide Combine functions...they just done work on strokes huh? -
