Someone on Twitter has also asked for an older AI file support for compatibility with another app.

+1 for depressing the mousewheel to pan.

Hi everyone, I just made a little video about snapping to show off the basics. It's in the style of a short feature promotion but can serve as a very basic tutorial too. There's no voice over, I've used captions to describe how things work.
It shows:
Turning snapping on
Snapping to the page geography
Making objects snapping candidates
Making objects snapping candidates while using the Node tool
Optionally displaying snapping candidates all the time

Best wishes to all of you putting Affinity Designer to work, Dale.

As an aside... Andy what would be especially useful for me is when I have one hand on the Windows keyboard and the other on the Mac mouse that somehow you can pop up a flashing BERK ALERT. That costs me more time than learning new stuff.
Thanks.

I'll make sure to release beta news on the blog for any RSS feed that gets added. We're just refining the look of the blog at the moment too.

Hi Prisca, I'd suggest raising the texture fill issue in the PDF and AI Import thread, Dave Harris mentions Affinity Designer will only support a subset of PDF/AI fills on import but perhaps it can be addressed.
-
Jens don't worry, the team are working hard to their plan, I'm just fantasising from the sidelines.
-
Hiya jbartley, I can't check to give you the right wording just now, but there is a global option the adjust this behaviour; have a look in the Affinity Designer > Preferences menu. It's because many people prefer to keep lines in pts even when using other units.
-
Allen these Affinity branded Mac apps are entirely new with no code shared from Serif's Windows range. The Affinity titles are intentionally different from the Plus products, they're unashamedly pro, but you may still fall in love with them even though the feature sets are different.

Tab was to hide/reveal panels btw

I managed to miss this earlier today working on other things but I wonder would a sexy little usability tweak like this be any good for scaling lines & effects with objects?
-
Diablo some of the layer behaviour you describe is modifiable using the Assistant Manager, have you checked it out before? Maybe the chosen default behaviour is great without having to change any options there. :)

Hi Ryan, is this request for final export purposes or something else?

Any thoughts on adding animation ability one day?
Tony can give a better idea about this, but another team member thought it could happen in the future in another product in the suite (not as part of Affinity Designer).
-
It doesn't seem to have held Adobe back much Andy, but I reckon you will definitely not be able to please everyone before customisation. Unless specific modifiers can be sidestepped in some dastardly intelligent way.

This is nice work B)

Welcome to the forum Sara. Zoom is alt+mousewheel if my memory's right.

Affinity designer is my first AI type program Ive used (as AI is too expensive) - heres a quick logo mockup for a design competition - they're an electronics company... Still wondering when they're or if they already have put a save as png option?
Hi Aliguy, nice design, simple and stylish like the most enduring logos.
I saw this was a screenshot so wanted to let you know you can export as PNG from Designer; check out the Export persona. When you switch to Export persona the workspace changes to give you export tools. You can create slices of custom size or sized automatically based on your Layers/groups, you can control the export format and quality, then output single or multiple files in one go. HTH.

Yes Affinity Photo and Affinity Publisher are going to be separate apps, but from what I understand of the roadmap, Jens, you won't need a viewer. You just buy whichever of the three apps you want and can work in all three apps with one document if you wish.
Transferring a document between apps will be very simple, so you can quickly proceed using that app's tools (and whichever Personas it includes).

But the short silent videos aren't meant to be tutorials. Do you think they just don't work for promotional purposes?
-
Yep it's certainly proven that multiple channels and increased engagement increases retention, that's definitely the case for the tutorial vids.
-
Dale, I like what you have done on the tutorials. Maybe a voice to say what you are doing would add a little to them.
Hi Gregg, the tutorials do have a voiceover talking about what the operator is doing. The feature videos and #BecauseWeCan promo vids don't, do you think one or both of those video types should have some? I hoped they are so simple that it's easy to see what's happening.
-
Hi, as mentioned in an earlier thread we have a growing collection of mini vids that each showcase a single feature for promo purposes. They'll most likely end up on the Affinity website to complement the descriptions there.
Let us know your thoughts good or bad, thanks everyone.

One of our creatives is also making similar short and sexy videos to promote the Affinity Designer beta via Twitter, if you could retweet them that would be a real help, thanks.
