  1. Works perfectly, thank you very much! Just on the odd chance, is there a way to do this "automatically" on a document-basis other than in Acrobat? I will still have to lead clients to this option and not all of them are technically competent.
  2. The printcompany that most of my clients are using requires PDFs with text as curves. No point in discussing it, it is how it is. Strangely all lowercase "L" look totally "wrong" in those PDFs. This is true for almost every font. They all print fine, the problem appears only when viewing them in Acrobat Reader. But every client is bothered about it and I always have to assure them that it's only on their screens. Does anybody know about this problem and how to possibly fix it? strange_l.pdf
  3. You are right, my original problem was solved very quickly. But I don't mind if the discussion is going on like that. I read every post and have learned a lot more than I thought I would. And who knows, I might have to align rows of numbers one day and already will know many ways to do it. Thanks to all of you!
  4. I just tried this too. NEVER would have found that, it's hidden really deep in Character > Typography > [...] > Show all font features. Another thing learned, thank you for that. With the font I am using (Open Sans) it almost works, but not as good as with optical alignment.
  5. While I would not call myself an expert in type, I am well aware of the principles. After all, I am in Marketing & Design for over 30 years now. In fact I started creating my own "fonts" as far back as to the Sinclair Spectrum (!!) in the early Eighties where there was a hack to replace the system font with your own on a 8x8 matrix. What I was wondering was, why Publisher does not do the math required for aligning everything right? That's what you will usually want if you align a block of text this way. I am glad I learned the "Optical Alignment" trick. but in my mind this should only be needed only for the opposite way - for intentionally misaligning characters. @AlanPickup: When I started my own business around 22 years ago, I had to deal a lot with "real" printers and frankly it was a pain youknowwhere. Everything was on Mac those days and I was working on Windows. Getting film negatives for the printing plates right was always a torture. Nowadays I just have to export to the correct PDF-format and everything else works like magic. One might reminisce about the "good old days", but some things are better nowadays too
  6. Thank you, that worked very well and I never would have found out on my own. Problem solved. Still I wonder why it does not align right in the first place? It seems counterintuitive having to set a rule for expected behavior?
  7. I am working on a stationary for a client. The letterhead should be aligned right. His phone number ends with a "1" and for some reason this does not align right, but leaves a little space. I went through all the justification and transform options, but I can't figure out how to really align everything to the right. Any help please?
  8. Sorry for not mentioning that, but I am on Windows. I just posted here, since there seem to be fairly recent comments to this matter. Also I thought that Win/Mac versions were generally always the same? In any way it needs to be fixed and soon.
  9. I was just checking in on this again and read the release notes of beta 1.8. But I still can't find any mention of this being fixed. Dear Serif, your software is great in general. But Expand Stroke not working is such a very basic function that it is absolutely not acceptable. I need this every day but I will never use workarounds that still give bad results, nor will I spend time for fixing it manually. I already lost hours of work on a logo that was completely unusable after expanding stroke. I recreated it in Xara and it converted beautifully as it should and as it always has. Also you are kind of hogging my investment into Affinity, not only money but a lot of time too. I still can't make the switch and right now I still prefer Xara over Designer every day. In fact, if Xara had your excellent rounding tool, I would not even think of using AD at the moment. I try not to be selfish, but I can't think of any single fix that could be more important than this. It's such a basic function, it should work before anything else. So pretty please, tell us this will be fixed very soon?
  10. Today I finally found the time to actually do this. And it worked like a charm, even my assets are there. Thanks again.
  11. Hi Dan, I bought directly from Affinity. I located the current settings at Users\myusername\AppData\Roaming\Affinity. Is this what you mean?
  12. Finally I got my new PC and am just in the progress of setting everything up. Affinity Designer, Photo and Publisher are already installed. Is there an easy way to transfer all my settings colors, assets and so on in one swoop? Old machine was Win7, now Win10.
  13. Thanks. It almost seems out of character for Serif to release something *that* bad. But at least I know that it's not my fault. I am slowly moving from Xara to Affinty, but issues like that are not helpful. Hopefully this will be fixed soon. EDIT: I just tried to copy/paste to Xara - DOES NOT WORK Next step was to export from Affinity as PDF/SVG and importing into Xara. This resulted in a totally messed up thing. Upon export AD seems to expand strokes by itself. With the same abysmal results. When I open the file in Xara it's all jaggy and completely unusable. Enlarging and then expanding stroke did not work either. When scaling back, the width/height ratio is different than before. This is absolutely not acceptable, why is there no outcry yet? It's such a very basic function, I am sure that a lot of people need this to work? Serif, please get your act together and fix this already. You just cost me hours of work, because I have to redo the whole logo in Xara again to be able to export it. I mostly have good experiences with the Affinity suite so far, but this is below amateurish and really a shame.
  14. I frequently need to convert vector lines into shapes. I am using Layer -> Expand Stroke. However, the results are mediocre and unusable. Is this the wrong way to do it or is the result just that bad? I am doing this in Xara Designer all the time by "Convert Line to Shape" and it works flawlessly without any visible change to the line. I really hope the error is on my side, help please.
  15. I am sure, that word is pretty much the worst program to do this I tried copy/paste to Excel, but it imported as an image of the table.
  16. Meanwhile I exported the tables as a PDF, opened it in Acrobat and exported from there as HTML. It generally works, but requires a lot of touch-up and editing of the generated code. There must be a better way?
  17. I have a client who frequently has new products. First is always a catalogue for the product, which I create in Publisher. Next step is usually to update the homepage with basically the same content as the catalogue. Often there are large tables with technical data involved. It would greatly help, if I could export those tables to as plain as possible HTML. I don't need styles or a complete website, just the tables would be sufficient. I did not find a way to export like this in Publisher. But mybe there is a workaround or some other way to do this? Please help, thanks!
  18. Mick's observation is generally correct, but for me it's the other way around. In my installation, the "Automatically update .." option was UNchecked by default. When I CHECK the option, the warnings go away. UNchecked and the warnings come back. I think this is counterintuitive, but my problem is kind of solved.
  19. When I create any documents in Publisher, I usually embed all images and not just link to them. Whenever I reopen such a document, I get multiple popup-warmings saying something like "The ressource image_xy has been modified outside this application". Then the popups close automatically and everything else works fine. But why do I get those warnings all the time? First none of those images has been changed in any way since I last had the document open. Second, by embedding the images, there should be no more connection to the source files, even if they were changed? Am I misunderstandung something?
  20. I am creating a catalogue and a couple of pages are just tables with technical data. I have those tables as a Word file and as an Excel spreadsheet. I am looking for a way to import them into Publisher AS TABLES, so I don't have to type out all the numbers in there. I tried importing directly, but there's no such option. I tried copy/paste but it gives me text that is not a table. Help please!
  21. Dear Developers, the more I work with Affinity Designer, Photo and Publisher, the more I like them. There is a bit of a learning curve coming from other programs, but it seems worth the effort. However, I am not completely happy with two things in particular. Those are the main reasons why I don't use AD exclusively by now. Before I bought Affinity Designer, I was working with Xara Designer for many years. Recently, I made myself use AD more, but when I need something done fast and intuitively, I still go back to Xara. And here is why: a) Vector drawing I do a lot of Vector drawing for logodesign and illustration. While AD has some superior tools - just the corner rounding tool alone is worth the purchase - it lacks basic usability compared to Xara, at least for me. Affinity Designer: Lay out nodes: Pen tool Bend curves: Switch to Node tool More nodes: Switch back to Pen tool Adjust curves: Switch to Node tool Reposition node: Switch back to Pen tool Xara Designer: Lay out nodes: Shape tool Bend curves: Still Shape tool More nodes: Still Shape tool Adjust curves: Still Shape tool Reposition node: Still Shape tool This makes working way faster and I really don't see why AD would need two tools for that. b) Applying Colors Honestly, I hate the way applying colors works in AD. Fiddling around switching fill- and line colors to apply them just does not work for me. In Xara left-clicking on a swatch changes fill color, right-clicking on a swatch changes line color. I can recolor multiple objects with different colors in a matter of seconds this way. AD feels way more complicated and tiresome. This is my subjective view and of course I am biased from using other software for so long. But I feel adopting those things would benefit AD greatly. If only as alternative options, so people who like the current way would not be affected. Please think about it, Cheers
  22. Hi, I made a catalogue in Publisher. The print company needs a PDF with all text converted to paths (no embedded fonts). I swear I saw this option before in Publisher, but I just can't find it anymore. HELP me if you can, thanks! EDIT: I found it! Silly me, I did not see that you can scroll down the options.
