I am working through a design sent by a client. I do not save the original but sometimes I accidentally change a position, color etc. Is there a way to lock for editing unless I want to do so?

I have an issue loading a psd file. I get a string of Unknown property:VectorOriginationData.keyOriginBoxCorners and ...tmf I have tried unchecking "Import PSD smart objects where possible" but still the same errors. I have the same loading in Publisher too. Latest version for both. In Publisher I also get missing fonts error but not in Photo. I have attached the problem file. THETA WEBSITE.psd

In my testing I was too quick. I was using the wrong brush color. I have it now!

I currently use Lightroom 6 with affinity photo. I would like to become less reliant on LR6... I use the LR functionality of right clicking on the blackpoint and being able to move the slider to show the amount of black visually. Likewise the whitepoint. Also the sharpen mask option to see just how much of the image you are sharpening. These three in particular I miss when in the Develop module. Is there an analogue to this functionality in Photo?

Yes thats true and as I understand it,correct. I am painting on the brightness adjustment layer to darken the background. I tried to paint on the background, which is what I guess you mean by the pixel layer, it actually paints white, But the paint brush is doing nothing when painted on the adjustment layer.

I spoke to soon. Back in the same image and the pain brush still doesn't work (nor other images) yet the other tools on the flyout seem to be ok.

Hi Carl Thats was it - blend mode set back to normal. I had reset the brushes but this wasn't changed by the factory reset! Thanks

That sounded like exacly the problem. But no Protect Alpha is not ticked. I tried ticking it... testing... then unticking to no avail.

I am playing with adjustment layers and find the Paint Brush tool does not work as I believe it should. Using a brightness adjustment layer, invert and lower the brightness very low for testing purposes. Selecting the Paint Brush tool from the flyout shows it to be selected on the tool bar but does nothing on the adjustment layer. "B" cycles to color replacement brush or pixel tool (or selecting from the flyout) the brush then works. The tutorial I have been following only talks of using the paint brush but I can't seem to get the actual paint brush tool to do anything. This has been the source of puzzlement to me for a while can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong, or have I got a bug? I have attached a loom video where I set the adjustment layer, inverted it, set the brightness low , selected the paint brush tool from the flyout tried to use it and failed, then I selected the other two on the flyout, both of which worked. I thought it might be simple. I was following an Affinity Revolution tutorial and it said press b to get the brush tool. I guess I didn't have the same starting point. - but didn't seem to work - it changed to a cross and drew lines, pressing again seemed to go through a gamut of tool selections. So I looked for a brush tool but I cannot find anything just called a "paint brush tool"- there is a paint mixer brush, clone, dodge and erase brush. blur sharpen median and smudge brush. None of which are what I want afaics. Sorry to seem dumb - I have had Affinity for some time and keep coming back to it for different tasks but give up and use other quicker, non-affinity options that get the jobs done and so I never gain sufficient familiarity with the complexity of it.

I have just been following How to Remove Backgrounds in Affinity Photo but I am finding the "black" tool does not hide what I am trying to do on the mask it seems it does nothing. Hi I just ran through the on-shot colour astrophotography tutorial. Is there a tutorial or guide as to what the requisite sets are. Dark frame for instance I guess are taken with the lens cap on? But what are all the others?

so no simple"merge layers" like photoshop?

Thanks for replying. I am in designer. I opened an image an drew a rectangle over it and filled with white. I then set transparency to give a faded effect. I then wanted to crop it but nothing seems to "bind" the image and rectangle together. Cmnd E (ctrl e cos I am in windows) does nothing.. What do you mean "crop the canvas"? fwiw it started as a jpg and will be exported as a jpg.

I have an image as a background layer and I have drawn a rectangle over the top as a semi transparent overlay. How do I merge the layers so I can then crop the combined image. Group, save flattened, all still mean I have to crop the overlay and the background individually. Oh and, I cannot find "new layer from background" or am I misremembering. Any advice welcome.

Granted. Convex is what I want to achieve. In coreldraw I would just convert to curves and double click to add a node. But there seems nothing intuitive that will enable me to do anything but resize or crop an image. Node, corner tools do nothing.

Use an artboard? How? I actually want to curve the bottom of an image.

Just place the object then select the node tool. Tried as image, then rasterise and trim but I am missing how to apply the node tool - see uploaded file in my post above

Not for me it doesn't. I did it again. Placed an image, clicked the node tool and it doesn't select. I then rasterised and trimmed it and the layer said pixel but again the node tool does nothing. Do I have to create a pixel layer in which to place it or do something to add nodes? To be clear I am trying to create a curved bottom edge to a rectangular image. attached is the simlest approach I am using to demo - just a placed image and cannot use the node tool

I want to shape the bottom edge of an image. In CorelDraw I would convert a placed image to curves and use the node tool to pick each bottom corner and move up to give me a curved bottom edge. Doing the same in Designer doesn't work. Selecting the node tool allows no selection at all. Where have I gone wrong?

I am photographing artwork to be uploaded for use on products such as duvet covers. The service (Red Bubble) says I need an image of 7632x6480px. My Sony A7rii maxes at 7952x5304px nearly there but wht the heck cameras are they expecting? Has anyone done photography for anything like this?

I have two machine with Photo. Opening the same psd file on one shows differently to the other (my wife who want I am trying to teach). I have attached two screen shots. I open on my machine and I see Design (embedded document) with (mask) and (perspective) indented underneath. can select the embedded document to open it up. On the other machine with the same psd I see Design (pixel) and just (mask) underneath. Design does NOT open up. The problem is on a new installation but with the EXACT same file (not a copy) I can attach the psd if it helps but it is 274Mb. I suspect this is a difference in configuration on the new install.

Interesting but I was hoping to get back to the (lost) original really which was just the black filled text, possibly trying different fill colors to match my background.
