  1. Thanks for your comments. As I mentioned, I was saving the images at 100% jpeg with no destructive editing and the "calculating file size" indicated about 9 to 10 MB. When I exported/saved them and looked at them in Apple's Preview it confirmed file sizes of 9 to 10 MB. I even checked this by putting another image through Affinity Photo and doing NO EDITING to it and then, - Export - Save - 100% jpeg and it still gave me a "calculating file size" of 10 MB. Later on I tried the same thing with another RAW file and "calculating file size" indicated the usual 21MB. I only tend to lose half the file size if I have cropped a photo. I think it might be an intermitent bug of some kind. If anyone else has had a similar problem please let me know. Thanks alot.
  2. The latest news is I've just edited a Raw file and saved it as a 100% quality jpeg and the 'calculating file size' indicates 22.59 MB. When I save it and check it using Apple's 'info' it is in fact 22.59 MB. I haven't changed any settings to my knowledge so is this an intermittent bug? Has anyone else had these problems? Thank you
  3. Perhaps someone can help me. I start out with a 20MB image file and when I go to Export > Save> jpeg 100% quality the " Calculating file size" typically indicates 10 MB. I haven't cropped the image or applied any destructive editing and I'm working in Photo Persona. To double check, I opened a 21MB Raw file, applied zero editing and when I went to Export > Save, the " Calculating file size" indicates about 10MB. When I actually save it and examine the file size in Apple's Preview it confirms this reduced size of 10MB. This has only just started occurring. When I had a look at some edited and saved jpegs from a few days ago they are mostly 18MB - 30MB which is what I would expect. Would anyone know the possible source of the problem? Thanks.

  5. Hello Forum. I cannot get Nik Efex to work with Affinity anymore. Affinity never could access the full range of Nik Efex but worked with the one I really wanted which is Silver Efex. Now it doesn't even work with Silver Efex. I know that Nik Efex is no longer being developed but the full range of Nik still works with Photoshop Elements 14. Can the staff at Affinity restore this plug-in?
  6. Hello Forum. I have been successfully using the Nik Silver Efex plug -in until recently and now it won't open up properly. It begins to load and then the whole programme freezes up. I'm using a desktop Apple mac running El Capitan. I've ticked the box in Affinity Preferences to allow outside Plug-ins and I've performed a re-install but still no joy. The plugins all work in my old Photoshop Elements 14 wonder if any Affinity members have experienced similar problems and what can be done about it?
  7. Hello Forum. I have an issue with colour on Affinity Photo. I'm using a mac which is calibrated (yesterday) with a Spyder 4. The problem is that images opened in Affinity have a red bias to them compared to the view from Apple's Preview. This is especially noticeable on skin tones and is slightly unpleasant compared to the preview look which is slightly warmer and less red. I have set all the colour settings in Affinity to the calibrated Spyder 4 setting but there is still this red bias
  8. Hello RCR, I'm using a Canon 6D set to RAW+jpeg. The file is CR. I've spent a lot of effort putting a double border on a photo. Now it needs to be sharpened using a high pass filter - which of course will make the file even larger before going to an online printing Lab. How can I avoid generating such high file sizes? I know that I have to convert this to jpeg for online printing, but won't the file size still be pretty huge? I've tried uploading a 164.8 MB file for you to have a look at but the upload failed. Is it normal to generate such huge files when working in Affinity? Can I limit this size by working in a different Affinity setting? Or should I re-size it while I'm still working on it?
  9. Hi everyone. My main concern is that these huge file sizes will soon fill up my hard drive. These file sizes seem absurdly huge. The 2 gigabyte file still needs to be sharpened with a high pass filter before going to an online print lab so this will bloat the file even more. Is this normal? I am starting with a raw file of about 25MB and this quickly turns into 381MG after conversion to an afphoto file or even 2GB when some adjustment layers are added. Is this normal? Thanks.
  10. Thanks for your help.I am using a mac. I recently opened a new Raw file and did no editing at all. When I saved it and closed Affinity, I checked the size using "get info" it had increased to 381MB. There must be something fundamentally wrong here. I'm trying to upload this photo for you to have a look at but it just takes too long to load and I've stopped it. I think a 'size' setting of some sort most be wrong but there is no book to consult and this is a serious omission by Serif. It may be OK for experienced Photoshop users but beginners like me can easily get lost. How do I set the dimensions of the file before working on it? I need to set smaller dimensions .Thanks for your help

  12. I am new to editing software so I hope someone can help me. I am generating enormous files as I try to edit my work in Affinity Photo. Some files are hundreds of megabytes and one file has reached 2.3 gigabytes in size. I have been creating layers, adjustment layers and generally experimenting some of the time. But I have also been deleting layers and cleaning up as I went. I thought this would help to contain the file sizes. I read online somewhere that the history channel can contribute to this? Can I turn this off permanently? My question is 1. Why am I generating such huge files and how can I avoid this? 2. How can I reduce the file sizes to manageable proportions- bearing in mind that I have spent a lot of work on some of them and I don't want to do this all over again.I intend printing these files via an online printing firm. 3. Why is there no comprehensive book in English when there seems to be a German equivalent? If there is anyone who can point me in the right direction I would be very grateful. I've tried to upload some photos for members to view but both uploads have failed -probably due to the huge file size!
  13. I am opening a Canon Raw format CR2 and saving as Save As. I am using Preview as an Organiser and when I go back to Preview the changes have disappeared and I'm back to square one. Thanks for your reply.
  14. Hi everyone. I'm new to Affinity Photo and have a fundamental problem saving files. I'm using Apple's Preview as an organiser/ browser and when I edit a photo and save it in Affinity, none of the edits I've made appear when I view it again in Preview. For example, I adjusted the contrast of one image converted it to black and white and altered the tones using an adjustment layer and merged the layers and saved it. But when I opened it in Preview, it had reverted to its original colour and contrast. When I first bought Affinity Photo via the Apple Store it just loaded up. I wasn't asked to register or anything. Is this a registration issue or am I doing something fundamentally wrong?
