  1. Sorry - I can see the spare channel in the Channels palette, but I want to look at it in the main view and edit it.
  2. This is nearly the same as what I had described. Thank you. It seems a bit convoluted, though. Why do I have to rasterize to a mask, and pick it up as the alpha channel? In Pshop, I could just create and work on a channel directly, pasting an image in, retouching, adjusting levels, until I got what I wanted, and then load as a selection after I was finished. I don't see any way to edit (or even see) the spare channel in this though.
  3. While this is a distinct question, it seems to be answered by the mysterious "Rasterize to Mask" command which I can't find in Help. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/39822-recolor-line-art-in-photo/&p=198928
  4. Your Rasterize to Mask works as well, AND it makes the negative space in the line art transparent! I don't understand what it's doing though. If I drag the layer onto the other, it only masks according to the rectangle outline of the line art. If I use "Mask to Below" in the Layers palette, it also uses only the rectangle of the line art. What is going on with the Rasterize to Mask that it actually does what I want? How is it different? I don't see anything in the Help.
  5. This worked nicely for my current need. Thanks! The advantage of using the alpha channel / selection though, is that all of my negative space is transparent, so I can place something as line art, and then fill in layers behind to show through it.
  6. In Photoshop, I can work with a grayscale image in an alpha channel, and the grayscale values determine what is/isn't selected when I load a selection from the alpha channel. So, If I bring in a black and white photo, I can load that as a selection, then paint across the selection in whatever color I want. The end result is the photo in the color I am using to paint.
  7. I want to distress some type with a grunge texture. I tried dragging a texture onto a type layer in Photo, and it showed up next to it as a layer mask, but the masking seems to ignore the values of the image, and only seems to care about transparency levels. How can I get it to mask based on values?
  8. I will give these a look. Is there no way to work in an alpha channel with a grayscale image?
  9. I have some scanned line art I want to recolor from black to blue. In Photoshop, I would always copy the art, paste into an alpha channel, and then load that as a selection and fill. How can I do it in Photo?
  10. If I am creating an arc with two points, how can I get my control handles to mirror each other so that my curve is perfectly balanced between them, instead of being biased a bit toward one?
  11. Is there a way to put text inside of a shape so that as the text changes in size/length, the surrounding shape does as well? I want to create a button - say, a rectangle with rounded corners - and be able to change the text, and have the surrounding button change sizing so that text is always the right distance from all of its sides.
  12. It would be very nice to be able to maintain the zoom level and positioning of a document when I am jumping back and forth between Designer and Photo. Main request: If I am in Designer working on a web layout, and I click "Edit in Photo..." in order to do some image sweetening on a placed photo, when I am finished, and come back to Designer, it would be nice if the file re-opened in exactly where it was previously, so I don't have to zoom back in and find my spot again. The same for flip-flopping the other way Photo > Designer. I realize that everyone may not want this behavior, but what if there was a general setting in the apps which would tell it to do this in general - so if I close a file, then re-open it, it holds the position. Then there could be a separate toggle for doing this only if you are switching between the apps like I describe.
  13. Very nice! Is there a way to get my file to open in the last zoom/position it was in when it closed? That would relieve me of having to keep zooming and moving when I bounce back and forth between apps.
  14. One of the things I have grown very accustomed to in Photoshop is being able to do photo editing right in my web layout file. It looks like I need to use Affinity Photo for that task, so what is the most streamlined way to do this, figuring that I will place multiple photos, and want to adjust them in various ways as I work?
