  1. I ran the 16 gig file with linked psd files through File Juicer. Among other oddities there is at least one "Windows BMP Image" all exactly 20mb in there per each and every image placed in the file. More of these than images - but no ID as to why. In the file with linked full size jpegs, nothing like that at all. Almost done switching this file over to all jpegs, now all I have to do is heal the bruises from banging my head over this. Thank you, though I'll pass on bothering with the beta - bu the time I finish this project an update will be out.
  2. Using present version 1.9.3 - actually reinstalled yesterday. Ran more tests - linked psd files on a new document are making for HUGE file increases. Converting the images to jpg completely solves the problem. I can do this - to over 100 images but shouldn't have to. While images are not embedding, psd images are linking to take up a heck of a lot more space on the file than jpg files. SORT OF solves my problem, but this has got to be something of a bug. As long as my book files didn't cross over a certain number of images, all was well. This one is simply too large to handle over 100 linked psd images without bogging down the computer. Should be easy to duplicate - simply create a new file and link a couple of large psd images / save / then replace them with full jpg versions / save / compare file size. The difference is WOW. No excuse for this. Why would there be a difference whatsoever. I do not like working in I.D., but it does not have this issue.
  3. I can't work like this - I created a blank new document / copied one linked image onto one page / saved / it ADDED 100mb to the file!!!! / that is the FULL size of the image, exactly. Linked files are not linked??? Preferences for file are set on linked. Resource manager says they are linked. They are not linked. I can transform any image to full screen without seeing any pixelation - the full images are going in there. My problem is simply that Publisher is embedding linked images. 6 linked images made for over 200 mb. File with about 60 is closer to 6 gigs. 5 images did not register full mb, but the amount is horrendous. For this image book, do I have to do two files in order to work (I have only 32 gigs ram). Why are images on pages so high resolution, can I lessen that? HELP please.
  4. OK, have retrieved an older version. It seems after I tried opening the problem file, even after force quitting, Publisher was holding onto it when opened again and wouldn't work other files. In fact, a Publisher icon is now atop the file icon and I got one dialog box when trying to reopen it saying that it was already open on another application 0 NOT). Restarted and Publisher works on past files, all is ok with app itself. Could it be a size issue? Why are Publisher files with all linked images (lots, maybe 100) so it is large. BUT this thing is almost 16 gigs - that does not make any sense to me. My old I.D. files never approached anything like that. The file from Time Machine is about half full of linked images at that point and "only" 6 gigs and runs smooth at this point. Could it be because I am linking psd files from my folders and not making jpg versions first? Why would that be (I did that with I.D.)? I am willing to adjust, just never looked at file size, figuring linked files were not an issue. I really appreciate your help and apologize for getting this misdirected to the app instead of the file up to now.
  5. Now it is completely screwed up. It opens a couple of old documents, not the ones it was hanging on at all. Can anyone tell me how to remove ALL related files to this in order to do a clean install? I tried deleting the preferences.dat file - but all that did when it created a new one was make it not able to open those files it was hanging on - with no damaged file notice or anything like that - simply nothing happening. Something is corrupted somewhere.
  6. Sorry, had to be away from this but now I need to work. NO it is NOT document specific. Does this even on all older documents I'm done with - all I have to do is move something and save an wait forever. And it is getting worse - tonight I can't get past the long saves to get any work done whatsoever - having to force quit.
  7. Since updating to version 1.9.3 the FIRST save of a work session is always problematic. I have to simply move an image on one page and save, then wait up to 2 minutes for a slow progress bar. If I do any amount of work at all before doing this, it can take up to 10 minutes going through two progress bars. After this everything is fine and all saves are as fast as always. I'm on an iMac running latest Big Sur.
  8. It seems I had set one paragraph somewhere to indent, and then every text box I created was indented to that extent, also causing this effect. I just reset it, but odd that the setting remained like that. Thanks, your note was a clue to the cause.
  9. I have a 114 page document, facing pages, already finished. Only one "section" so page numbers should work. The first nine pages have the appropriate numbers - after that its a miss-mash order of single digit numbers with matching left to right all the way through. Have tried redoing numbering. Again, section manager says only one / numbering on the spreads is all good (Pages 52/53). What am I missing?
  10. I found this thread looking for a solution for my 9+ gig Publisher file with abut 100 linked PSD files. Evidently the same issue arises with psd file format and linked files as with aphoto files. This has to be a major bug. And at this stage, needing to convert 100 psd files to tiff is not comforting. Using version 1.7.3 – or should I hold my breath until 1.8 comes out? Update: since this was to be exported to a high res PDF anyway, I batch converted all psd files to full size jpegs and replaced all the links. File went from 9.9gb to 17.1mb. I'll run my own comparison tests when 1.8 comes out.
  11. Whenever I open a PSD file that happens to have a saved selection area Affinity opens the image with everything else completely missing. This happens even if I export the same image from Photoshop to a TIFF first. All my files are completely flattened versions. Photoshop CC / Mac Yosemite
