  1. Here is a link to download a zip file containing iconic freeware fonts under the SIL freeware license. I have them in my own library and thought they might be of use to someone. MAC and Windows fonts included. iconic-fonts.zip OFL.txt
  2. Neither have I. I don't know why Affinity behaves this way. You can't enter hex with numlock off so scrap that theory. You jjust must have numlock switched on to enter special characters via keyboard. Affinity Photo should have an insert © option from the menu. Affinity Designer too. Under Insert Character woul be a good addition.
  3. Yes. InterestinglyLibre office worked with NumLock on and off. The glyph browser showed codes in hexadecimal with NumLock off. I figure I've just discovered a feature that I didn't know about before. Maybe NumLock off requires hexadecimal input rather than decimal?
  4. For some reason Affinity has stopped allowing me to enter the copyright symbol using Alt 0169 on the number pad. It was because Numlock was turned off.
  5. This is something I use Corel Paintshop Pro X4 for. The ability to remove JPEG Artifacts from images by first adding subtle noise and then selecting an edge preserving smooth. This removes the blocky look to highly compressed images. Interestingly the Despeckle feature did it in one step on the first Photoshop Elements app. I'd like to see this feature in Affinity Photo in the future. Maybe under an image repair persona,
  6. Here is a poem I created in LibreOffice Writer and laid out in Affinity Publisher. The toasted cheese image used was created by using a combination of Corel Painshop Pro X4, BenVista PhotoZoom Pro, Fotosketcher, Corel Paint It and Affinity Photo. Affinity Photo was used to enhance the detail in the Tone Mapping Persona. Toasted_Cheese.pdf
  7. For anyone who misses the instant artist feature from Serif PhotoPlus I have discovered a free stand-alone replacement. It is called Fotosketcher and can be downloaded here. Sadly it is Windows only. https://fotosketcher.com/ This should keep some users going until Affinity Photo gets its own internal artist photo processing features. I have included an example water colour style image on this post to show its possibilities.
  8. Yes it is about windows shutdown but the value seems to prevent Windows 10 from prematurely assuming a program has hung whilst the system is still running. Not just at shutdown.
  9. Yes that sounds really cool. That is information I did not know. Cheers for the information.
  10. Oh I see. I was thinking of a direct link. Much as we can do for images. Re-imported and updated on the loading of the document we are working on.
  11. Not so much import in this case but directly linking. That way any editing done in your Word Processor would be freshly updated when opening the document in Publisher. A linked text resource. Apple Mac word processors should be supported too of course. Yes Open Document format is a rising standard. Being open source should help with implementing the processes required to read the file format efficiently.
  12. A really useful feature that would be a boon in a desktop publishing app it the ability to link document files from word processing applications to text frames in the publishing app. This may be a difficult thing to implement due to the many formats out there but certain word processing applications could be supported, as could text file editors. Also supporting RTF and TXT formats would be quite helpful. The Open Document format would be one to support, also Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Corel WordPerfect. Then we could edit the text in the word processing package of our choice and save it. When we load Affinty Publisher our document could then go about linking and loading each of the files from the save text files. A sort of text version of the way images can be linked. It would be an interesting feature to implement which could increase the DTP packages versatility no-end. Maybe after adding a story editor into Publisher we could link the files there aa well.
  13. I love the new document size choices in the 1.8 update. It is a very nice feature indeed. Just a minor request to think about for the future. When selecting a page size in the Print category having the option to retrieve margins from the printer would be very good. Obviously we can create our own page formats and add them to the front requester which can speed up this option for ourselves but it seems a waste of effort for such a small preset alteration. Just a check box with the option would be a boon. The only way to do it at present is to select the page size preset and enter the spread setup dialogue to select the option from there. It is still a great update though!
  14. The screen updating and rendering is faster now in all the Affinity programs. Very well done!
  15. Here are the font files which are distributed with implementations of LATEX. The publishing solution that is script based. For anyone who likes the fonts they are included in this CM.7z file. Different formats are included for your own choice. They can be used in other applications but remember these are optimised fonts for printed materials and don't look that good on screen. The Latin Modern are slightly better quality in my opinion. CM.7z For more fonts from the LATEX catalogue go to https://www.tug.org/FontCatalogue/
  16. I've finally found the solution to the problem. It is a windows issue in Windows 10. If you are working on older hardware then the default HungAppTimeout valuse of 5000 milliseconds my not be enough. The key was available in Window 8.1 and earlier to edit the value. Simply re-adding the key in the registry and increasing the value will prevent Windows prematurely thinking that a process has hung. Here is a link which should help illustrate how to alter it in Windows 10. https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/97842-change-hungapptimeout-value-windows-10-a.html
  17. Curiously setting the 3d rendering setting to balanced rather than quality stopped the issue in the intel graphics driver.
  18. Thanks for the assessment. I think the number of fonts is probably the issue. Disabling Process Lasso doesn't really help. I removed a few fonts which I don't use and the problem reduced . The trick is knowing which ones are essential pre-installed fonts and which can be removed safely. Actually the font folder reports 594 items. It must count differently to the font manager.
  19. These settings work for me in process lasso. You may need to experiment if you have similar problems.
  20. On further experimentation I think this maybe a Process Lasso related issue. Curiously disbling the setting Do not act on processes of non-normal priority corrects the fault. It maybe that the process priority disparity of some processes in relation to the non-affected processes may cause a delay which windows briefly reports as a not responding task. As the process will then catch up it will correct itself. This is something other users may need to be aware of.
  21. When I start Affinity Publisher on my T430 laptop with Windows 10 I get a flash at the top of the screen which lasts about a second saying Affinity Publisher is not responding. This also happens on Affinity Designer but Affinity Photo has not done this. This is only temporary and the program carries on working properly afterwards. I just think it is a bit strange and wonder if anyone else has this symptom. I do see that fontdriver host is activated and takes a while to finish its processing in the background and wonder if this is something to do with it. I have 892 installed fonts. 16 GB ram. Core i5 Duo third gen processor. I'm running from ssd. Process Lasso is running in the background to help prevent system lockups. Publisher Version 1.7.3.481 Interestingly after loading and closing Publisher a few times this behaviour reduces. So I'm wondering if it is something to do with Windows 10 memory management issues.
  22. Here is my latest poem laid out. Not sure I'm happy with the layout just yet but it's not too far off. I used Affinity Photo to edit the background and Affinity Publisher to layout the poem. Neo_Liberal Work Ethic.pdf
  23. Serif are certainly a spectacularly industrious company. Congratulations on the Apple Award it is well-deserved. Your legacy applications were also award winners in their filed as I remember. Particularly PagePlus. I hope Affinity Publisher will go from strength to strength and become a new industry standard that will remain powerful and affordable for users and professionals alike.
  24. Is there any plan to support reflection maps into styles like we have in PagePlus X9? I find it adds a certain realism to some textures and would love to be able to achieve it in Affinity Applications.
