  1. Hi, @NathanC and sorry for the late reply. The JPEGXL image was exported through XNView.
  2. Hi. I have a document with a few layers placed into a hidden group. When I merge the layers into one (CTRL+SHIFT+E), I get an empty layer. Is this a bug?
  3. Hi. I'm seeing color banding when I view JXL images in Affinity Photo 2.1. This isn't the case when viewing the images in XnView MP. Please check the screenshot below. Notice the banding in the wooden planks and how there's none in XnView MP (on the right). Original JXL file is also attached. jxl_banding.jxl
  4. I forgot that I opened a file on the network drive so when I saved I got the error message and lost all my work. This is an extremely serious issue with this software and should be fixed ASAP. I hope the Affinity team works on the fix.
  5. Hello Affinity team, I'm still getting this error in 2023 with Affinity Photo 2.0.4. It happens much more frequently than with Photo version 1.x. Every other document I try to save now shows this error. The screenshot below is from a document I've just tried to save. I'm getting a bit fed up with all these errors when saving my documents...
  6. That's an interesting theory, but If that were the case, why is Affinity the only software that gives me these issues? I've never had this happen when saving files on the network drive with other software or when copying stuff on it manually. The biggest question here is why is Affinity outright destroying my work instead of showing an error that it couldn't save the file and ask me to save elsewhere?
  7. Hi, @stokerg. Thanks for the quick reply. That old thread of mine you are referring to is a different issue where the file can't be saved, but at least the program doesn't close without saving my work. That is an equally frustrating problem, but not as major as losing my work since I can save on my local disk when it occurs. My setup is a pretty standard one. I work on my local machine and when I'm done I save my work on a mapped network drive. The mapped drive is located on a PC in the same local network. The mapped network drive is Western Digital Red Pro 8TB HDD.
  8. Hi Affinity team, I was working on a document when I decided to save my work. The save progress bar hanged at ~50% for about a minute and then I got this error message: "Save failed because access to the file was lost". See screenshot below. Of course, I lost all my work on this document. This is probably the 3rd or 4th time I get this issue in the past month or two. This didn't happen with Affinity Photo version 1. It only started happening after I upgraded to V2. Kindly look into this major issue and fix it ASAP or I will be forced to move back to Adobe. I can't afford losing work, time and money due to this problem anymore.
  9. Hi, Yes, there's indeed a snapshot there. I hadn't created the snapshot though. As others have pointed out, it seems that Photo created it automatically without any warning or me knowing. I tried deleting the snapshot and doing "save as", but this didn't reduce the file size. Looks like a bug. Maybe it's a good idea to let the user know that a snapshot has been created and also have control over weather and when one is created.
  10. I tried to upload it, but clicking on the link leads to a page that says "This file request has been closed or deleted, or never existed."
  11. Thanks for the suggestions, @MikeTO. I tried them all, but unfortunately none of them helped. It's still the exact same size - 126mb.
  12. I'm not sure why this happens, but the JXL/JpegXL images I export from the latest official JXL encoder or through the latest version of XnView show inaccurate/poor colors in dark areas when viewed in Photo 2.0.4. I've attached 4 files - the source TIF file, the JXL exported from the TIF via XnView (quality 97, compression level 7), the JXL exported from the TIF via the official encoder (quality 97, compression level 7) and the JXL exported from TIF via Affinity Photo (quality 97). Any idea why this happens? Is this a bug with Affinity Photo or am I doing something wrong? tif.tiff tif_converted_to_jxl_in_XnView_quality97.jxl tif_converted_to_jxl_in_AffinityPhoto_quality97.jxl tif_converted_to_jxl_in_cjxl_quality97.jxl
  13. Photo seems to remember the export settings for all other image formats, but not for JXL and WEBP. The Quality slider always defaults to 100% for these 2 formats no matter what quality I saved with last time.
  14. I used that example just to illustrate a point. I do know how to effectively select a few neatly organized squares. Thanks anyways.
  15. Not helpful. It's easy to select/deselect objects when they are neatly laid out like this. In a complex composition with tens of objects or more it's impossible to add or remove particular objects from my selection, because the SHIFT+drag hotkey both adds and removes objects from the selection at the same time. This doesn't make any sense. No other software does selections like this. There are always 2 separate hotkeys for adding and removing objects from the current selection.
  16. Because the current implementation is very counterintuitive. It both selects and deselects objects at the same time in the same action. For example, If I have a row of 10 squares and I have selected the first 5 and then I do SHIFT + drag select over all 10 squares, Affinity Photo will deselect the first 5 squares and at the same time select the other 5 which were never selected to begin with. It's very confusing and counter intuitive, especially when I want to select or deselect a bunch of objects among other objects that I don't want to touch.
  17. Hi, Making a box/marquee selection with SHIFT held down both selects and deselects objects. Are there separate shortcuts for these 2 actions? In most programs these are separated into 2 different shortcuts to avoid mistakes. Thanks in advance!
  18. As the title says. Photo seems to remember the settings for all other image formats, but not for JXL and WEBP. The Quality slider always defaults to 100% for these 2 formats no matter what quality I saved with last time.
