  1. Lacerto, I think you described very neatly all the issues with the new interface. So many options are grayed out until you start to manipulate them. I think that's the most confusing part of this change.
  2. Thanks for all the replies to my question. Today I was able to print double-sided from Affinity Publisher and the double-sided option was not greyed out as it was yesterday. I think what threw me was that the print dialog box in the Sonoma OS is different from the print dialog box in earlier versions. It is less clear how you choose which pages to print. As a result, I was not choosing the pages correctly and the program thought I was trying to print only a single page. As a result, it greyed out the double-sided option. But once I figured out how to specify multiple pages to print, the option became available, as shown below. I think the new print dialog box is somewhat confusing in terms of other choices as well, but I guess this is a matter of getting used to it.
  3. I recently bought a new printer, a Brother DCP-L2550 DW. It's a monochrome multi function printer that uses airprint. I also recently upgraded my Mac Os to Sonoma 14.2.1 and upgraded all my Affinity programs to the latest versions. Now, when I go to print with this printer, the option to print double-sided is no longer available. The only way I can do double-sided printing is to export my file to a pdf and then print it from Preview, which does allow double-sided printing. I searched the Brother website to see whether there were upgrade printer drivers I could download , specifically for Sonoma, but there were none. The website suggested using Airprint which I believe the printer does automatically, So, at this point, I don't know if the problem resides with the printer, the OS, or the Affinity programs. Can anyone enlighten me on this question and suggest something I can do to allow double-sided printing through the programs themselves without having to export my files as PDFs? Thanks.
  4. Thank you both for your suggestions. They were very helpful! I upgraded to V2.3 and tried the Move/Duplicate feature but I couldn't figure out the settings. but, for some reason, Command J worked and my lines moved down the page very quickly. I"ll continue to experiment with these tools in order to figure them out better. But, now I have the lines I need for my project.
  5. I am trying to create some lined paper where the lines are in landscape orientation. I have created a custom sized page and set up a grid and guidelines. I want to have two columns of lines with a deeper space at the top of the page for a heading and a white space in between these columns. I have read several tutorials on this topic where the suggestion is to create two lines of the proper length, at the proper distance apart, then to select them and hit Command J to repeat these lines across the page. When I do this, the lines seem to stack up on each other and not move. If I try to drag them across the page, they don't always move the proper distance even though I have created a grid and enabled the Snap tool. Since I'm creating narrow lines, it's very time consuming to create the lines and space them. The command for vertically spacing the lines an equal distance apart also seems not to be working. I've set this project up in Affinity Publisher (V2.2.1) so that I can have a master page and be able to create subsequent pages of the same type. It's clear I'm doing something wrong but I can't figure out what. I'd be grateful for some help on how to create the lines I need for my project. Thanks in advance.
  6. OK, thanks. When I get home and connect the laptop to the monitor, I'll see if it persists. And, thanks for telling me how to solve it if it does.
  7. I am traveling now so I haven't had a monitor attached for more than 3 weeks, but, yes, I had a monitor attached before.
  8. Thanks. I"m on a laptop with no monitors, but using Window Zoom made the studio reappear. Is this a bug in the program?
  9. I just opened a file in Photo V 2.2.1 and my right studio has disappeared. I tried resetting the studio but that didn't help. I tried hiding and then unhiding the right studio but that also didn't help. I tried minimizing the image to see if the studio panels were visible on the page, but I couldn't see them. So I'd appreciate suggestions for how to get my right studio back so that I can work on my photo. Thanks.
  10. I think the additional section got added when I added pages. I noticed it when I saw that the page numbers had a restarted to 1 on the next page that I had added. If it happens again, I will use the History panel to record the steps though I don't know how to record a video sing that panel. But I can list all the steps.
  11. Tomaso, I tried adding some new pages just now (just using the Add Pages command, not the Add Pages from File command). This time I did not get a new section, so I have no idea why that happened when I added new pages yesterday. Thanks to your help, I was able to delete the unwanted section. Gary P, I could see the window that Lee showed after I chose a file, as you suggested. But, as Tomaso said, I only wanted to add new pages to my document, not add pages from an existing file, so the Add Pages command makes more sense. If, in the future, the program adds a new section when I add pages, I now know how to delete it. Thanks for all the help.
  12. When I used Menu Document Add Pages from File, I just got a list of files on my computer that use Publisher, not the screen that Lee showed.
  13. Thanks, Lee. I tried what you suggested and did not get a screen similar to the screen you posted. Instead I got what is shown in my attached screenshot.
  14. Thank you, Tomaso. I was able to delete the section from the section manager. The Remove section was not apparent until I saw your post. Lee D, I could not find what you referred to. There was no Add Pages option from File. You could add pages from Document, but there was no option for Ignoring initial section. Could this function be somewhere else in the program?
  15. Today I added some pages to my Publisher document. I did this by choosing 'add pages' and then indicating after which page I wanted the new pages to start. As a result of doing this, Publisher created a new section in the document which I did not want. I can't find any way to delete that section or to make those new pages part of the first section. I've looked at tutorials and searched on the web, to no avail. So, is there is way to add pages without creating a new section? And how do you delete an unwanted section? Thanks
  16. HI Hangman, I"m glad too. I'll report any new crashes if any occur, but hopefully they will not. At least I now know how to look for extraneous things within a master. Thank you again for your help.
  17. Hi Hangman, Thanks for the suggestion. I did as you suggested and things worked out pretty well. i ended up having the copy the text from the previous file into the new file, but I didn't get any crashes when I made changes. So I now have a file that appears to work--fingers crossed! Thanks to everyone for the help with this.
  18. Hi Dan, I opened your file, tried to change the font size on one page, and the program crashed just like it did before. I tried it several times with the same result. I also noticed in the layers panel that on the master B there were 2 frame text layers in exactly the same place. They are the first and the sixth layer. I wonder if that could be causing the problem?
  19. That would be wonderful. Thank you! I'll test it and let you know if it works okay.
  20. After reading Walt's comment, I looked at the master in the Layers panel and saw what looked like an empty layer. As soon as I deleted it, the program crashed. The same thing happened multiple times. Still not sure what to do to be able to use this file. It seems like almost any action I make to it causes the program to crash.
  21. I am still trying to fix my file so that I can continue working in it. Dan, can you tell me how I can see an inline file? When I look at my master B I can not see anything inside of it. Also, as I mentioned in my previous comment, when I tried to delete the text frame in Master B so that I could recreate it without anything inside it, the program crashed. Now, every time I open it, if I make a change to a page based on that master, the program crashes. I have another Master C that looks the same as Master B. I tried to unattach some pages from Master B so that I could reattach them to Master C, but that also crashed the program. So, what can I do to continue working on this file, short of starting over, recreating the masters (hopefully with nothing inside them) and then copying text from the previous file? Thanks
  22. Thank you, Mike, for explaining what an inline PDF is. (And, thanks for your comprehensive Publisher manual.) After you did, I went to my document and looked at the master that Dan said crashed the file. The only thing I saw in that master was what look like a text frame. I didn't see any PDF document or anything else in the text frame, but I decide to delete the text frame, hoping that if anything was inside it, it would also be deleted. As soon as I did that, Publisher crashed. I reopened it, got the message asking if I wanted to restore the file, and said yes. At that point, it crashed immediately on reopening. Every time I tried to reopen the file, the program just crashed. I'm attaching the crash reports. At this point, I think I may need to start from scratch and just create a new document. 23. Thanks very much for explaining the problem. But I don't know what an inline PDF file is. My intention was to set up empty text frame on the master so I don't know how an inline PDF file--whatever that is--got into the frame. But I will delete it I'll let you know if I have any further problems after I do so.
