  1. Ralph,

I don't know what happened but when I set up the doc. setup, I set the color format to CMYK/8 and IMAGE PLACEMENT PLOICY TO EMBEDDED.

But I was checking all the photos in Document Resource Manager, the IMAGE PLACEMENT POLICY IS "PREFERRED  EMBEDDED AND in color Spect RPG format. If I change the Placement to EMBEDDED THE COLOR SPECT CHANGES TO RBG. Why did that happen when I did set up as above?

I thought when I set the color format to CMYK/8 and the Image Placement Policy to Embedded, that all the images would be per my settings. I checked in Document Resource Manager and all the photos are LINKED AND CMYK/8.

How do I convert the mode (Document>Convert format) per your instructions to CMYK & Embedded. I opened the doc in Aphoto but can't find where the convert the mode (Document>Convert format) is or how to change every photo.

No problem! I have received a lot of help myself from the forum, and in particular the guys who are presently helping you with your section numbering issue.  As they say, the User Interface is not intuitive and often seems to have been designed to put users off the scent.

Continuing the 'backup' theme, I use a software package called "GoodSync". It checks for any files that have changed in selected folders since the last time it was run and backs them up. It can also be used to sync. devices. I have about 45,000 files to check and the whole process takes about 30 secs at the end of each day.

I had not seen a claim by Serif that all Affinity files were recoverable. If you don't have a backup, ask if a moderator can help you to recover them, They do work for Serif and are outstandingly helpful.

There has been traffic in the forum about backups. Very little, if anything, offers a true backup facility. In fact I haven't come across one since magnetic tapes went out of fashion! A true backup never overwrites anything. Every time you save a copy, a new file is created and 1000 copies of a file was not an unusual occurrence (filename(n)). Autobackup software at best makes a "father" copy, at worst, it overwrites the previously saved version. Sync-ing merely overwrites the saved version and, if you have managed to corrupt the file, spreads the corrupt file across all your devices.

      Good luck.

Sorry to hear that. Since your file (and backups??) are separate from the programme, you shouldn't have to worry about losing anything. But I'm no expert in this area.

The way the forum works is that users ask questions and other users answer. Some users are so expert that they are easy to confuse with Serif professional staff! Most of the guys who responded to your original query are users and I only got involved when I sensed that your place on the learning curve was nearer to mine and rather lower than most of them were able to handle :).

The problem you describe has come up recently and solutions have been proposed. At my level of expertise with the inner mysteries of the Affinity trio, I can only recommend that you post a new thread. Before that, try searching for "the document must now close". There's a lot of material about the issue in that thread and it seems to indicate that saving to an external disk can cause it. It recommends saving to your hard drive.

And, if it isn't too late, ALWAYS work on a "working copy" of your file, with at least one backup. One of Affinity's (many) basic shortcomings is that it does not take automatic backups every few minutes. We have to do it ourselves. A good protocol which I learned several decades ago is to keep three versions - "grandfather/father/son". It can be tedious but it helps me sleep at night:)

      Hi,

      You say:

I don't follow that:/ You say that the Mode changes from RGB to ... RGB. Maybe it's too late at night for me.

THe last question is easier. If you open the file in APhoto and then open the dropdown menu under "Document", the option "Convert format/ICC Profile" appears. Nobody could ever accuse any of the Affinity apps of being intuitive or user friendly! They are powerful, however.
