  1. It is a pixel layer and I have it selected. However, it is inside a bounding box, but that should not make a difference. I have edited such pixel layers m many times. .As you may know, In Illustrator one can easily assign colors in a grey scale pixel layer, such as the map reliefs I often edit. In Affinity (Photo), however, the doc must be in the color format, and then creates a pixel layer above the grey scale and choose the blend to create the desired color. I have found that when I do this and export a tiff from this doc, I can edit the color in that tif in AffPhoto. This is what I have done in the relief map doc on which I am now working. That is where the "lock" problem emerged. Thus my question as to why the lock symbol has appeared. I will try duplicating the problem and see what emerges. Thanks for the response. PS: BTW, I can bring a color relief doc into Affinity and then edit the color without going through the above process
  2. I'm in Aff Photo (via AffPub) on an iMac Pro using OS 13+. The layer object I am editing is unlocked (as well as all of the layers "above" it), my all CYMK sliders in my Colour palette are all at zero (thus not reflecting the colour of the object) and moving them does nothing on my tif. Then I just noticed a "lock" icon beside my CYMK option in the palette. Is this the problem, and if so, how do I unlock it. I've tried the usual unlock option. What is this "lock" used for? I would imagine that it locks the sliders. See the snap below.
  3. You are right on, Old Bruce. I never thought of that since haven't changed fonts in this doc, but I must have since instead of Cambia I now (thanks to you) see that Wingdings is there. I haven't used that in years but must have mistakenly hit some keyboard combo or ??? I should have check my fonts right away .dhaa.... Many thanks for such a quick reply!
  4. PS to my first post: I just tried a copy/paste of a text from a FRAME TEXT into an ART TEXT and it did this correctly (letters and not symbols). However, creating the same text directly in ART TEXT produces only symbols.

  6. I have one AffPub doc in which the Art Text tool (and only that tool and only in that doc) types symbols on the screen rather than letters. I have checked all Mac's System Preferences in OS 11.2.3 and my keyboard is correctly chosen. I have also checked Affinity preferences and see nothing related to this. The keyboard works find in other docs and apps. I have also zapped the PRAM and booted with SHIFT. The FRAMETEXT tool work fine, plus I have tried different Mac keyboards and have the same problem. Might this be a bug that crept into this one doc, or is there any Affinity setting that I have missed?
  7. Holding down CMD + Space in some Adobe products is a quick way to move around in a doc in any direction, but I find nothing like this in AffPUB. Yes, I have a shortcut to toggle the View Tool (Hand) on and off, but that takes a couple steps. I have shortcuts for panning up and down and for sideways but not a way to quickly pan in any direction by holding down certain key, a must faster way to move around in a doc.. Am I missing something, or is this feature simply missing in Affinity programs?
  8. Sometimes I name and arrange my Publisher layers and sublayers (in sequence of use) so that I can make them visible one after the other, or even go back and review if necessary. This saves a lot of time rather than making PDFs or putting my work into Keynote, etc. But to do this I have to have the Layer panel open or in split screen. Have you thought of having a small interface with shortcuts that would allow a presenter to go to full screen and then easily navigate up or down from layer to adjoining layer, with the option of going through sublayers under a top layer? This would be a fantastic addition since editing and presenting would be via Publisher. Thanks for considering it. PS: You hyperlinking/anchor options appear to work for objects or PDFs but I see nothing layers.
  9. This is the link that alerted me to the problem above. I thought this would help you and others to understand my original question.
  10. Thanks, R C-R. I use these "Customize Toolbar" personas all the time. It is the Export Persona that is not in Publisher's Designer. The Export Persona (with slices, etc.) is only available in a native Designer, not in the Designer one can call up in Publisher's personal. I hope I am making sense. Thanks, R C-R, for all the help you give us.
  11. Thanks, Carl. Not my addition to my original question. BTW, your comments on "house arrest" and Boris are much appreciated!
  12. In previous Affinity versions persona options were seen at the top left of my document. In 1.9 they did not appear, and I cannot find any preference that turns them on or off. What am I missing? Thanks. ADDED LATER: I have now come to find that these personas are only in Designer and not in Publisher in which I created my doc. My question above was because *in Publisher* I switched to Designer and did not see the personas there. When I tried to open my Publisher doc in "native" Designer I got an error code t(attached). I then tried to copy/paste my work in the 15-page Publisher into a new "native" Designer doc of the same size. However, the Publisher layer names did not come over into Designer, only the objects without the names that I created in Publisher. Thus I must rename the Designer layers or remake the entire work in Designer. I understand why Affinity cannot do everything we users want, and this is not a complaint. It is, however, a suggestion that you make the above clear to he user in some fashion, i.e., that not all features in "native" Designer are available in the Designer available in Publisher. Thanks to all of you working to make Affinity programs so wonderful for all of us out here.
  13. Scrolling up and down in some of Affinity Panels is a great feature. It does not appear to work in the Character, Paragraph, etc panels. Am I missing something or is this something you are working on? I get so used to using it where I can that I must back up for a moment when in the non-scrolling panels and realize that I must pull down the side bar.
  14. Below is a snap to help explain what I'm saying. I want to change the green fade to a blue fade. In order to do this I must type in the four CYMK or the three RGB numbers since I cannot drag a color or use the swatches panel to change a color in an effect. One day I hope this can be worked out, I would really be happy if I could use the eye dropper tool to click on the blue adjoining the green fade and have that happen as I work in the color area of the effect panels. That would be a huge help rather than looking up the colors numbers and typing them in.
  15. I posted this in the general forum on questions but thought that perhaps it belongs here as a request. - - - PROBLEM: Two tiny spaces remain at the top left of a group of multiple panels, the group being kept narrow on the side of my screen. The very top left space closes the group, and the other allows me to move (reposition) the group. Unless I am very careful I often miss the "move" the panel and hit the "close: space," thereby force me to reconstruct it via VIEW. This stops work flow and is frustrating. See my snap below. I want to keep such groups narrow in order to have more screen space for the document. SUGGESTED SOLUTION: This problem could be solved if Affinity's programs were to have a preference that would allow the user to opt for an on-screen warning to be issued (with a "yes" or "no" choice) if the user accidentally clicked on the "close" space rather than the 'move" space. It would save a lot of time, both in carefully placing the cursor in the exact position between closing and moving before clicking, and in reconstructing the groups panels if a slight wrong positioning accidentally closes rather than in the small space for moving the group.

  17. Problem solved! I rebooted my iMac after closing APub, and then brought up APub again and turned off "Use mouse wheel to zoom" in preferences that I had tried before but didn't help. This time it workd, so I'm up and running again.
  18. In Affinity I have always (with great delight) taken advantage of setting things up as follows so that I can quickly navigate. 1) Scroll in a doc with the mouse wheel with no modifier 2) Zoom with the mouse wheel plus the OPTION modifier 3) Pan with the mouse wheel plus the SHIFT modifier With the recent Affinity update my options are gone and my various combos above only zoom. I have used this quick way to navigate so long that it is now sorely missed. The last thing I want to do is to go the Navigator. Using the space bar to access the hand tool and then navigating by this tool is far less efficient for me than the mouse wheel Has there been a change with the recent update? If so, I am making a plea to return to what was. I am now working in Big Sur OS. Perhaps this has made the difference? Thanks PS: The two PNGs below from an earlier forum question are irrelevant to the above, but I cannot delete them.
  19. All of a sudden my CNTL key in APub turns the Cap Lock on and off. I have not tried to reboot but have quite APub and brought it up again with the same result. I have looked through shortcuts and other APub preferences but found nothing. Perhaps some of the strange things that APub does when it gets "tired." I'm working in Big Sur that also may have some bugs. PS: I rebooted and it still occurs before I bring APub up, so it must be some setting in the OS - yes a Keyboard Pref.
  20. I tried to document this with a clip from my screen, but thankfully and to my surprise, I could not replicate it. Last night I could have since it kept happening after quitting and bringing up APub again. It appears that closing down my iMac last night and booting it up today took care of the problem. I have found that after long hours of work in APub, strange things occur, even though I am not saving history (that must eat up a lot of RAM). Will keep monitoring it and see if it happens again. Your helpful comments, and consistent kindness on the forum is much appreciated, Walt.
  21. Yes, Walt. I'm changing personas and not going to the File > Edit in Designer. Sorry. I should have used the proper terminology. The problem I described has occurred multiple times, and thus I no longer use the Designer Persona options, although it is a wonderful help when needed. People cannot believe it when I show how simply I can move around in the three Affinity programs. I can't thank the Affinity gang enough since it is a huge help in my work flow. All I can do is to give them a little PR when possible.
  22. I just tried. the switching from AffPub to AffPhoto and the same thing happened. The AffPhoto Studio remained when I returned to AffPub. However, after clicking the AffPub icon the AffPub Studio returned to the screen. This was not the case with AffDen. Nothing I did could bring back the AffPub Studio after switching to AffDes and back to AffPub.
