Thanks Walt for the help and encouragement. 1) I had used the Interpret setting. 2) The Export Preset was left unchanged. When I tried exporting it again using the Passthrough setting and the Preset: PDF (digital - high quality), the exported PDF was only able to find 1 instance of 'lincoln'; unlike your success. The Passthrough setting also caused Preflight to complain, and that it needed to Fix Fix reset back to Interpret. When you tried doing this with the first page of the PDF (of 4) in Beta 2.5.0, did you resolve Preflight's complaint about missing fonts?

RE: AffPub 2.4.2 Windows In the AffPub project, I want to include an appendix for easy access to some very old laws that are mentioned in my article. The PDF document that I want to place into the AffPub project (example is attached to this post) already has OCR performed and embedded in it allowing for text string searches; an example is shown in the screenshot below. However, when the AffPub document gets exported as a PDF, the embedded OCR functionality in the placed document seems to have been lost. What have I done wrong? or is the placement of such a document into an AffPub project simply not able to preserve the OCR functionality? Many thanks for any reply. Kelly 1789acts0024.pdf

Perfect! Thank you Carl. This is really good to know. The very first image added to the new document for the cover page was large enough that the option to embed or link was given/ asked. I didn't realize that by my answering the question with Link for that one element would determine all others that followed.

I have been away for a couple of months with push notifications turned off And yes, without hesitation, I always update as soon as Affinity's auto-notification informs me that it's available. I love Publisher, but don't use it until the tail end of my research projects.

Sorry not to have explained my question more clearly. I wasn't asking if a PDF can be opened and edited using AfPub v2.4. Begin with an existing AfPub v2.4 document that was originally created in AfPub v2.4. Then place a PDF into that existing document, using either, Ctrl+Shift+m, or File, Place... As soon as it has been placed, Preflight produces a warning with a button to Fix. Clicking on it ends up changing the PDF Passthrough: from Passthrough to Interpreted. In either state, there is no Edit Document option. This behavior is different from earlier versions of AfPub v2 where the Edit Document option was clearly available.

Using Windows 10, Affinity Publisher v2.4 Is it still possible in v2.4 to place a PDF and then edit that PDF in place? Thank you very much for any help. Kelly

I guess it will be simpler to use the work around of creation in Designer and then paste into Publisher

Many thanks for the [Move Data Entry] tool and props to Andy Capstick for his article. Yesterday, immediately after getting the email notice, I began following his outline using Publisher, but it wasn't working as it did in his description. This morning I played with it, first in Designer and found it worked in accordance with the outline. Then I tried it again in Publisher and it still didn't behave the same as Andy described nor how I saw it behave in Designer. Below are a couple of screenshots of the setting and results from this mornings tests.

That is peculiar, and frustrating. FYI & FWIW - And as I mentioned earlier, the problem didn't present itself when originated from a LibreOffice Writer document that had its footnotes converted into endnotes by AfPub2.

@Chris Bossem Hi Chris, Welcome to the forum! For the final article, and in my subsequent work in AfPub2, I've made sure not to only have hyperlink URLs in any endnote. If the endnote must include a link, preceding the URL with normal text has so far worked. In the example below, I actually only used one end note and avoided using them by just using regular document anchors & links for Baseline Note, Apps Used and Change Log. Kind regards, Kelly

Hi Mike, In the last instance, the number remained. I honestly cannot recall with this morning's instance, nor when it happened for the first time seen later yesterday afternoon. As for the work around, and after 3 times bitten, I'm avoiding the use of endnotes altogether.

I've added several endnotes which are links, fully written out URLs to webpages, and then also made them hyperlinked to those pages. So far, I have had to do this twice today. Then without any warning or indications otherwise, they have vanished. I can't say even when exactly it happens, much less what I've done that possibly could have triggered this behavior. However, the website addresses was the only text in the endnote. The last article I prepared in AfPub2 was from about a month ago (17 May 2023) and this troubling endnote vanishing behavior was not observed, though note that there was other text in the endnotes that were not hyperlinks. Also possibly worth noting as relevant, these endnotes originated from a LibreOffice Writer document that had its footnotes converted into endnotes by AfPub2:

Thank you! I'll handle it another way with a hyperlink to a separate bit of text, which hopefully can coexist on the endnotes page.

Hello, Thank you very much for any help. I would like to refer readers to a single endnote on multiple pages; e.g.: There are multiple pages in the document each with an overlaid yellow box with its grouped text layer containing a reference to the endnote. Simply copying the group, Baseline Note!, results in the end note being duplicated and the reference index number increasing; e.g.: I began using Document-wide before reading about reported Notes issues before switching to Custom Notes settings, i.e.,: Thank you very much for any thoughts. FYI & FWIW Tables, AutoFit Columns to Contents, still seems broken in AfPub v2.1.0. Until this gets fixed I'm exporting a PDF from the spreadsheet program, LibreOffice Calc.

@v_kyr Thanks for the reply and the links! The workaround I started to use for this morning's little icon chore was Adobe (CS6) Illustrator, but then just ended up with another from AutoCAD LDD circa 2004. It does seems curious: why isn't a vector based program like AfDesigner more supportive of vector exports? Kind regards, Kelly

Apparently the option to export in a .dwg format isn't available in Designer v1 either, though I wondered about it.

@Ldina Thanks. v_kyr nailed it. The workaround will be to use ExifTool to strip out the deprecated tag before loading the images into Reality Capture, at least until they update RC.
