Yes, perhaps you can do this, but it's rudimentary and not very detailed to each corner or place of the pic. Because I'm a professional, very offten such ways of standard-funcions do not meet my wishes. I don't think this would be very difficult to implement into the code of AP in the future such like some other things of my wishlist for Designer, Photo and Publisher, I want to talk to the stuff of serife. You always compare to Apps which still can do this 30 years ago, so why not in affinity 🙂 Nice to talking with you about all this. Now I have to go to dinner with my wife, so we can go on tomorrow ! Let me explain. Take Landscape-pic and then you want to add 2 gradients in 90° from each upper corner in dark-blue-transparency to make some like a vignette-effect. A 3 gradient you may want to add to the pic from the baseline up into the landscape (gras par example) in mid green to forcen the color. So you need 3 layers for the gradients and a 4 for the pic. In PS you can do alll this to the backgroundlayer. (OK, no short way back after done this, thats right, but not always neccessary !

@brushes you are so right RCR, this exactly my experiences with all the vec and pix brushes...... a wild mix, you never know, what you handle with. Try it and have a lock to Des/Ph or Pub, in one of the 3 the brushes will come to life, but not at the other apps :-)))))) So go to the user-folder to delete the balast from your HD. But in honour, Affinity is at Version 1.xx, and they have done much of perfect wor in a very short time comparing PS is about 33 years old ! And always remembre the price !!!! Its fantastic for this !

I know, thats absolutly right but if you want to to make 4 different gradients to one pic you neither can do this directly at the layer of the main (very usefull when quick work is the target) nor you can do more than one gradient on each layer because the second will destroy the first one. Also ech layer starts with the Black to White and then you can adjust Color and stop-points and transparency. Layerbehaviour will do the rest of the functions like normal-mix-brightlight-a.s.o. but you cant do this before creating the gradient. All this counts, if you have to safe time when working because of a hundreds pics for web to do. If you have all the time, then you can be passionated with the AP-Gradients to do your artwork 🙂

You are so right ! So it is. PS is not AP, and there are a lot of functionality, AP does not have like PS and at the other hand, as you say, AP have, but not PS 🙂 Gradiences are such a thing, I'm not realy happy with inside AP. No possibility to take some light shades from color to transparence into a picture from more than on side to simulate a more complex vignett-effect. Instead in AP you have to do 4 separate gradience in 4 layers. Another thing much better in AP is separating fine structures to mask a horizon. This is so much mor better in AP ! We have to change a lot of the workflow, ad the end, we would be happy with the new APP Affinity, great work from Serife for a fraction of the costs :-)))))

Its a littlebit confuse. The funktion is "Modular Mode" in the first line of the window-pulldown, not the float-funktion. Seems to be another thing concerning the funktion-boxes of the workspace. But I have not yet discovered exactly, what this do 🙂 There are so many things different, if you have done work since Version 1 from 1992 in PS 🙂

Another thing I have not found until today... Do you know any possibility to use separate windows for every open pic inside AP like possible in PS ?

Exactly ! Today, every design-app seems a mix from vector and pixels, also Aff-P has vector-funktionality for example with the circles and cubes tool, or the vectorpen, this is realy vector until you change to pixels with the raster-funktion, isn't ? So why not using vector pens :-)))))

Hello walt.farrell hello R-C-R, thank you very much for your quick replys ! Both are very helpfull for me. I agree, that there should be no technical possibility to import such styles into Aff-Photo, if the brushes are vector and therefore not fit Aff-Ph ! Different to the old days, where a vector-app was for vectors (FreeHand etc) and Photoshop for pixels, today also Affinity Des + Ph is a bit of a "both-world-app" today like Illustrator and PSD. So why thinking about vectorbrushes inside Aff-Ph 🙂 I wonder, that "calkdust.afbrushes" works with no problem in Aff-Ph, but fineliner.afbrushes does not work with the same file-type-ending. Seems a little like a bug ! Now I will looking for the blind data to delete and then try again importing into Designer and publisher 🙂 Thank you very much again. Best Bobby-Alpha

Hi there, I have bought some aux brushes called "fineliner-brushes.afbrushes" together with Aff-Photo some. Today I want to install this inside the import-dialogue of the brushes. Well, choosing the "fineliner-brushes.afbrushes"-File.......Dialog quit successfull talking to me the new ones are stored under "vector brushes" ???? Where can I find these stragne vector-brushes inside a Pixel-Editing-App (Aff-Photo) ????? I have tryed this import 5 times and no seems to have 5 copies of these things ? Can anybody help, where to find, how to use inside Aff-Photo and where to delete the copies of the brushes. Best Sebastian

Oh thats no good news. I had supposed, that Affinity doesn't be a Software-Manufacturer, who goes on in Updating with outdating elder OSX and MACS !!!! We are talking about 3-5 years, not realy too old ! All elder MacPros and also iMacs a realy perfect and quick but not in the interesst of Apple, more like to sell new MACs, but they haven't. The only thing, they still can sell are iPhones, all others are the same like 2012 or much tooo expensive. Who needs a new MacPro ? But Softwaremanufacturer and Browser Open Sourcers like FF and GCrome are now able to make the elder MACS unworkable for Apple the easy way, just not longer support elder OSX, and this was it ! As long as the good old MacPro 5.1 is the best and reliable machine, you can get for professional work, as long good software like Affinity sholuld be working without any issue from El Capitan to Newest OSX and this is not any problem for all the Coder-Guys arround the world ! Catalina is not bulletproof and a pure nightmare for working with, never happened before at apple, and BigSur is still like a Beta until M1 is realy present. The El Capitan was the last reliable OSX (the so called WINDOWS XP from Apple) after SL 10.6.8. Such OSX are not available every time, more often every 8-10 years, forget the rest, too much money and installing work for so little benefits. How often we all professionals should buy new Macs, all the big and small Apps like CCC, DefaultFolder, Suitcase and many more for new ? How often we sould buy a new WACOM only because Wacom does not support older Tablets with newer Software therefore tablet-hardware is all the same since 1990, only the cableplug has change from ADB via COM to USB. Nobody can tell me it's not possible to get a WACOM from 1992 working on BigSure with the correct App. This is also a question of enviroment-protection and minimize of electronic-trash ! So Affinity go on change not do outdate a lot of elder MACS perfect working for Million Profs and Privats arround the world ! What do you think about all this ? Best Bobby

Yes, I know, and exactly these click into the presets does not open anything !!!!! With luck I got the panel after 5-12x click or not, it is not reproducable, sometimes it works, sometimes not. In 1.8.6 everything perfect. The surface still not react to the click, thats the problem, like you have a too thick protection to your smartphone. This is the only panel with this behaviour, all others working fine. Does not have had such things in any other Apps all around my Mac. What do you think ?
