  1. I've tried a lot of ways to do this, but I haven't found one. Would it be possible to have a hex code section added to the recolor dialogue in Designer? Trying to dial in a specific colour by eye is very hit and miss. It would be awesome if a colour could be defined in this dialogue by hex code, and it would massively impact my workflow.
  2. Stupendous. Hadn't even found that function yet. 😆 Thank you, much appreciated.
  3. It would be nice if it were possible to have multiple fx windows open. Sometimes, I muck about looking for something on a single layer that I might want to transfer to a group setting or to other layers. For example, I spent a bit of time fine-tuning 3D effects on a layer, then I had some ideas that required a new layer but the same 3D effects. Yes, I could use a screenshot...
  4. An interesting discussion. While, for me, the greyed-out menu item is a perfect solution, that's predicated on some assumptions that, while true for me, may not be for everybody. It's a perfect solution because it prevents an inadvertent loss of work and interruption of workflow. I agree that it raises some questions, but they're questions I'd generally expect anybody competent to overcome the initial learning curve to use any of these apps to trivially overcome. Where it represents a deviation from expected behaviour, which is what it would almost need to be in order for it to be a problem, the question then becomes 'why is this normally-available function unavailable', which is pretty trivial to answer. In this instance, my first thought would have been to save my work and launch Photo, at which point I'd have received the message concerning the new version, remembered that It was sitting in my downloads folder, and updated, with no loss of work or significant interruption of workflow.
  5. There you go. Perfect solution, a couple of lines of code. That's why they pay you the big bucks.
  6. Deep apologies if thread necromancy violates protocol or sensibilities, but I'd like to add my tiny whisper to the slowly growing chorus. I make diagrams for a science blog. My current goto is to screencap what I need, since I'm doing the LaTeX work on the blog anyway and at least the colour is correct, paste it in and edit it. I've mucked about with some of the solutions upthread, but all significantly impinge on my workflow when I'm at my most brilliant 😁. I tend to do diagrams as I need them, so I need to be quick for the most part before the mojo dribbles out the back of my skull. A native LaTeX/Jax/whatever or plugin would just be the best thing ever. If I could just copy my typesetting markup code into a box and hit enter, I'd be happy as a pig in shit. I use Photo and Designer.
  7. Indeed. The issue in this case was that AP never opened the file, so there was no option to switch back. Neither application had a recovery file to refer to, because AD had dropped it and AP had never opened it. It's very much a user issue, and my own fault for not updating both at the same time. Sometimes, though, workflow supersedes such considerations, and it would be good if each application could hang onto its recovery file until the transfer back is complete to avoid it.
  8. Hi, guys A quick question about the geometry of the pinch and punch tools in the liquify persona of photo. I'm doing diagrams of spacetime metrics, and the pinch and punch tools seem the perfect fit for manipulating a grid to show negative and positive energy densities, (think gravity well and gravity peak). I have something that's not awful but, no matter how I manipulate the geometry of the tool, I can't get it to match my expectations. Here's an example, showing a gravity well on the right and an area of negative energy density on the left. In particular, I expect more curve with the shrink (i.e., the centre shouldn't remain squares, but should also curve, with the degree of curvature increasing massively (pun intended) as it gets nearer the centre. I suspect this is to do with the fact that the application is radial rather than linear. I've tried multiple concentric applications with varying cursor sizes to try to get there but, of course, each previous application affects the result. I have plans for a lot more diagrams of this nature in the future for various physics applications. Is there any way some sort of gradient tool could be applied, so that the upper and lower bounds of curvature could be user-defined? That was I can take maximum curvature from the centre and define the radius by length of gradient. I'm guessing this wouldn't be the most requested feature ever, but it would make my diagrams much better and easier to construct. Edit: I accept that this may just be CFIT on my part, and that there's an easier way to do what I'm trying. If there is, I'd appreciate any advice.
  9. Thank you, Callum. I appreciate that. In the event, I started again. At least having done it once meant that the workflow was fresh, so I got back to where I'd been in about a quarter of the time and learned some useful lessons on the way.
  10. Hi, Callum. Sorry not to have replied. Never did get to the bottom of this, It's done it once since, but restarting resolves it. Sorry ot be so rude.
  11. I don't hold out much hope, but here goes. I've been doing some work in Designer. I'm making scientific diagrams for my blog. I'd done some work but I needed to use the warp tool. I've had the new version of Photo in my d/l folder since release, but haven't needed to use it, so I hadn't gotten around to updating it. However, I use Designer a lot, so that was updated as soon as I got the new version message. I needed a couple of minutes with mesh warp, so I clicked 'edit in photo' only to be met with an error message to the effect ''unable to open file; this was created in a newer version of affinity'. The file was not opened, but Designer closed it on the transfer, so now it's gone. So my question, is there a metafile somewhere that I can recover? Yes, yes, I'm an idiot. I should have saved. It's not like I'm a noob, I was just in a hurry and my experience of Affinity has been much better than I'm used to, so I naïvely clicked through without thinking (which is not to say that this is the fault of anybody or anything other than me and my haste-borne stupidity). I'm going to start again, but there's a lot of work, so I'm hoping a little advice can save me a considerable amount of work duplication.
  12. Hi guys. I have a small niggle. I use Designer on Windows with a touch screen on which I use a compatible stylus. Just today, I started working on a piece and, every time I touch the screen, the work piece jumps to wherever the cursor is. I'm assuming this is something I've done with a fat-fingered keyboard shortcut that I'm unaware of, because it hasn't done it previously. I've trawled the prefs looking for what this behaviour might be called so I can disable it, but I'm not having any luck. It's making a delicate job very difficult and frustrating. Absolutely love this application.
