iPad storage totally filled with Affinity Designer files
rockclimber replied to rockclimber's topic in V2 Bugs found on iPad
I’m using 2.6.2.3228. The filling of the iPad memory has to be an artifact as the memory allocations are orders of magnitude higher than the document sizes. -
iPad storage totally filled with Affinity Designer files
rockclimber replied to rockclimber's topic in V2 Bugs found on iPad
Just now, I opened a 20MB document from the sandbox, edited the document, returned to the sandbox, and saved my latest version to the iCloud. The Data and Documents storage in my iPad increased from 4.74GB to 8.95 GB as a result of these actions. In the last 3 weeks, I have deleted and reloaded AD twice, and each time the data and documents storage level was over 100 GB. Could it be an issue with my iPad? LEROY REV05c blobs 300.afdesign -
iPad storage totally filled with Affinity Designer files
rockclimber replied to rockclimber's topic in V2 Bugs found on iPad
I save my documents to the iCloud, but I generally work from sandboxed versions. Could it be that every time I exit a document, it’s not overwriting the previous sandbox version? -
I have been having issues with Affinity Designer "files" totally filling my iPad storage for years and have reported it multiple times. I only keep 1 or 2 documents in the "sandbox" and save often, but once again this has sneaked up on me and I have lost 3 hours of work. I understood this was fixed in V2, but nothing seems to have changed. For me this is a large and fundamental flaw in Affinity Designer, an app that is otherwise awesomely sophisticated.

I think I have found the problem. I was confusing the loop closure command with the join command.
-
I create two simple curves using the vector brush, I select both curves, and each curve has a ‘head and a tail" I then select the two nodes I wish to join (head of one, tail of the other) and tap the join button (iPad). However, instead of a straight line connecting the two curves, I get a huge v shaped curve that I can’t get rid of. Have watched videos, but no help.

The symmetry tool is definitely useful, but getting the symbols synchronized is a bit tricky and seems to require switching the object from move mode to node mode and back again. Sometimes I need to convert the object to curves, and then use the move tool to get the synchronized objects to undergo simultaneous changes. I find similar issues with the knife tool. Thanks for introducing me to the symmetry tool, it's great for working on mandalas.

Is there a tool similar to that in pixel mode that will allow me to make symmetry operations using vector objects in the same way that can be done with the paint brush in pixel mode? I am using Affinity Designer V2.

Darn, I was hoping to convince my wife to let me buy a new PC! The number of selected vectors that leads to a problem seems to be quite consistent, e.g., if I go over 2100 it invariably pops out to the front page of the app, but not to the page that contains the thumbnails of my projects. The issue does seem to get worse as the data and docs associated with AD gets larger so I am routinely removing the app and reloading it to remove files. Thanks for your input.

I have a project that comprises tens of thousands of small vectors (generated from a half-tone app). When I attempt to expand the vectors into the actual half tone circles to allow me to do a Bolean add, the app crashes unless I keep the number of selected vectors to less than about 2000. I am using the iPad version, and I wonder if I am simply asking too much of the program. Should I be using the PC version?

Continuing problem with iPad data cache filling
rockclimber replied to rockclimber's topic in V1 Bugs found on iPads
1. I always start a new file with the + sign in the app. 2. I generally use the app to open an existing file, but I do sometimes select a file I have stored on my iPad or Dropbox which then asks me if I want to open it in Affinity Designer. 3. I have never used pasteboard copy. 4. I do switch to other apps while Designer is open, for example, to mail if an email comes in. I don't do this a lot, but I know it happens. 5. I generally use the preset parameters that come up when I create a new document, e.g., 144 DPI. Same with the color format. 6. I almost always use vector, but occasionally bit map for erasing, etc. 7. I have been working on a fairly complex project with hundreds of individual vectors. I have noticed that it sometimes takes an uncharacteristically long time for the project to save on the home screen when I leave the work space. 8. I always save from the home screen, and almost never use export persona. I do export files quite often from within Designer. 9. When I use place, it's almost always with a photo or simple jpeg or png 10. I've never imported stock images 11. No special functions when I import/export. 12. I think my largest files are about 25 MB (bit map) 13. No anti-malware 14. I haven't knowingly registered any file types as default apps. The only thing that I have been doing a lot recently is working on my files with both Designer and Adobe Illustrator, and doing work on the files in both apps. I've been using Designer for several years, and this issue has ony recently appeared. I have attached a copy of the file I have been working on. When I Save As from Adobe for subsequent work in Designer, I generally use Dropbox and send it as an SVG. Thanks for your help in this matter. Continuing problem with iPad data cache filling
rockclimber posted a topic in V1 Bugs found on iPads
For the second time in three days, my iPad data cache has been filled with hundreds of GB of "apparent" data through Affinity Designer. This data disappears if I totally remove Affinity Designer from my iPad. I understand that this is a known problem, but I wondered if there was any estimate as to when this bug might be addressed. -
All my attempts to establish an Affinity Account or register my products have been unsuccessful. I've tried resetting passwords, logging out of this forum, registering as a new user, signing in with various passwords, all to no avail. Either my passwords are rejected, or I'm told my email is already in use. Are the emails and passwords for this forum related to the passwords and emails for the account? Affinity apps are working fine, but I'm unable to get the free offer associated with registering my products.

Major problems with data and document storage levels
rockclimber replied to rockclimber's topic in V1 Bugs found on iPads
Thanks Walt, this could be. However, it seems peculiar to Designer as my other apps such as Adobe Illustrator, Procreate, Shaper3d, and even Affinity Photo seem to be OK. My largest files are only about 25 MB, and I only have a few of these. I think I saw a suggestion from a few years ago to delete Designer, and reload, but I worry about losing things. Thanks again for your input. -
I am using an iPad Pro and it is indicating that the Affinity Designer data and documents are consuming 143 GB of space which is not possible since my ipad only has 128 GB of storage. This issue has also made it appear that my icloud storage limit has been exceeded so that I can no longer backup my ipad without purchasing more space.

Object Order
rockclimber replied to rockclimber's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Many thanks, this worked well. I also tried the duplicate/rotate with a circle with a lune removed via subtract which also worked. -
I’ve run into a rather odd problem that I can’t seem to sort out. I was trying to make a flower pattern with overlapping petals by duplicating an object, rotating it, and then using the power duplicate to generate the remainder of the petals. I have presented a simplified example below. The problem is that the final petal (B in the example) is not properly ordered, i.e. I want petal B to be above A but below C to properly complete the pattern. I’ve tried putting B down one level, but then A is wrong. I’ve also tried moving layers in the layer stack, but to no avail. I suspect the problem may be that because it is circular, I have come back to the starting point (petal C) which is at the top of the layer stack while petal B is at the bottom of the layer stack.

Viewing document as actual (printed) size
rockclimber replied to rockclimber's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of iPad Questions
FYI, I use an app called RapidResizer which allows me to accurately set the size of a printed image. Therefore, if I set the image size to the AD document size e.g., in mm, I get a paper copy which matches the AD size. I can then transfer this to my wood for carving.- 6 replies

Viewing document as actual (printed) size
rockclimber replied to rockclimber's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of iPad Questions
Great! This seems to work. I viewed my 100mm x 100mm document at 50% and it measured (with a ruler) 100 x 100. Similarly, my 10 mm circle measured 10 mm. Do I need to set my DPI at a specific value to ensure this works. I think it was set to 144 for the 100 x 100. This help has been awesome, thanks.- 6 replies

Viewing document as actual (printed) size
rockclimber replied to rockclimber's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of iPad Questions
Many thanks for the quick reply!! Yes, this would be viewing the document on my iPad. As another example when I created a new document I set the dimensions of the document at 100mm x 100mm. When I open that document in AD, the aspect ratio is 1:1 which is correct, but when I created a 10mm circle on the screen, it is physically larger than that, I.e., when I measure it with a ruler. I was wondering if there was a setting that would automatically show the document as 100mm x 100mm on my iPad screen, i.e, an "actual size" button. The reason I am doing this is that I want to convert some of my drawings into wood carvings, and I need to assess if the size of something I have drawn is practical in terms of carving. Thanks again- 6 replies

I would like to be able to view my Affinity Designer document as it will appear when printed. For example, when I created a new document I set the document size to 203 mm x 279 mm and I would like to see it displayed on my iPad at this size. I suspect that the answer to this question is either very simple or very complicated. Thanks.

On several occasions, the Affinity Designer app has closed on me while I was actively using it with a loss of recent actions. This has happened three times today.
