I seem to have a polka dot effect when I dodge. I've attached a screenshot with the opacity turned up. I can't get a consistent flow. I've closed all other open applications but it still occurs. Any idea what would cause it? Windows 10 Dell XPS 15 9570 15.6 inch 512GB SSD Intel Core i7 8750H 2.20GHz RAM: 16GB DDR4/2,666MHz 16GB FHD Boxed Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti w/Max-Q Design DirectX version 12.0

Today I used my Sony E 50mm F1.8 OSS lens with my a7 III and the raw images when opened in Affinity look like the attached screenshot. The same images in my other software (FastRawViewer, iMatch and DxO Photolab) show normally without the crop. I've used the lens before and this didn't happen in Affinity. Could I have missed another setting in Affinity? Many thanks.

I'm very new with Affinity but so far I like it a lot. So many things to learn but right now it's dodge and burn. I've been watching a bunch of tutorials and there are many ways to dodge and burn. Some are very complicated with multiple layers, settings and tools like Bland Ranges. Others are fairly simple like creating a duplicate layer in Softlight and using a brush and the Colour Chooser at more or less than 50% gray. The simplest way is using the dodge or burn tool on a duplicate layer. Am I missing something by not using one of the very complicated methods? Are some methods better for certain images over others? What's your preferred method? Many thanks.
