  1. Hello, I have redone my work twice, 40 pages, so I decided to try my look here. I have this 'paper effect' layer created by a designer and applied as master page. On the top of that, I have a 'rectangle' layer with colour, so the pages change its colors but the 'paper' effect remains. For twice, after applying the Master layer in all pages, and manually adjusting, When I reopen the file, it is gone. I cannot figure out, because when I open the Master page, everything belong to the layer is right there. It simply does not work anymore, doesn't matter if active or not. Searching for solutions, to what is already a strange behaviour, I saw someone mentions to chose 'edit dettached'. Not sure what that means, but the moment I click on it, AD crashes. couple of screenshots: close-up on 'texture' (paper effect) master in original file master copied and applied to the second file (which 'disappears' although all parts remain visible once I close the file). Surely I am doing something quite wrong here, but what?
  2. Hi! Yes, indeed. Windows 10. My workaround was to move the file back, open in the original folder, 'Save As' to the new folder, and then it opens, and also the 'Add Pages' does not crash the software anymore. Since I did not do anything different when saving the first file and folder, I have no idea why moving the entire folder and subfolders cause the issue...
  3. Hi there, I have run into an issue, and so scared now to have lost a very important job. First, I worked with the file for days, generated the final PDF for print, all fine. Once I finished, I moved the entire folder to a new location, to replace the previous version. after that move, Affinity crashes immediately when I click to open the file. I have transferred the entire structure of folders, did not rename, did not alter anything, just put the entire folder UNDER a new folder. Then I tried to use a previous version of the file (with same specs), and Add Pages from File, to import the file mentioned above. First attempt was succesfull, but I did not pay attention to the location to add, and added in the middle of the old pages. I reverted. And tried again, this time choosing to add 'After last pages'. Then, now, Affinity enters 'Not responding' and task is never completed. Files are huge (it is a childrens book). Since everything was working, I have a hard time to imagine what is the reason for the crashing in both scenarios. Any tips on how can I recover the file - works of months - is highly appreciated. The whole thing is heavy and copyright protected, I would not upload here, but I am happy to help you to help me, tell me how:) Affinity version 1.9.2.1035. UPDATE: - mysteriously, if I move the entire folder to the old location, files open just fine. What I don't get is there is nothing else in both old and new locations, just a different parent folder within the same drive!!
  4. Hi Garry, thank you so much, it seems you have spotted a good clue, I have not even realize the layer has a DPI value for itself... I wonder if I can change it, but just check and could not find. Short history: I have a .psd mockup, now saved as a .aphoto project. Following the youtube tutorial above, I managed the first progress, to insert the image really 'inside' the layer, instead of 'over' it. Before I was using the logics of Photoshop, and place image was not working. As per tutorial, I select the layer > Apply Image > the dialogue box with options appear I chose 'Load Source from File' and image is perfectly blended but not keeping its original quality. I can send the whole file for you, if you kindly have the time to check, please note mockup has several layers, I am using the two ones under Layer 42 (layer 24 copy ...) As per screenshot, as it might be a bit tricky to locate. INNER_SPREAD_mockup_final.afphoto
  5. Hi Walt, thank you for our reply, I have learned precisely here: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOKsS9HqsEk&list=LL&index=8&ab_channel=CreatewithAffinity), and before I understood that, place images would rather make a mess, as it is not like in Photoshop, so it was a great tip... For the image to 'adapt' to the layer's effect on the mockup, that is so far the only solution, apart from the fact I cannot figure out, as mentioned before, why the image suffer such a loss in quality, so the embed image keeps its resolution and yet incorporates the mockup layout. So basically, is there a way to control the result or to keep the properties of an image using Apply Image tool? Why and how resolution is reduced? Thanks in advance,
  6. Hi there, After trying several formats, sizes resolutions, I realize no matter how high quality my output is, when using 'Apply Image' tool to place the image on a mockup for a book spread, it gets quite poor, and I have tried everything without a clue how to prevent the quality loss. As a result, the text appears pixelated. Original tiff image is 5250x5250 pixels, over 16 MB, it should not appear like that, any ideas how to solve this? Since it is to apply on a mockup layer, as I have learned, 'place image' does not work, it has to be inserted via 'apply image tool. Ta
  7. Thanks, I will do that when working with 2 files with same page+bleed dimensions!
  8. Thanks for the tip! the problem is that new files are under a completely different format, so I need more than saving as to reuse, the easiest to me was to work on the resizing of all pages (they are full bleed spreads), and to leverage only the text boxes. I have added all pages from file, but then I have to scroll up and down, copy pasting, then deleting the extra pages, the risk of mistakes is bigger. This is what I have done so far. I have 7 languages to create several bilingual versions. As show in the image, there is a funny spacing and a coloring I don't want to redo, nor to manipulate, best would really be capable of simply paste that language to a new base file. I can always start with 1 file and keep 1 side (language), the other however I have to add from a previous version. Does it make sense? I guess I make it to sound much more complicate
  9. THank you! I ended up uploading 1 file wrong but did not find how to delete it, Definitely the issue is between the 2 files "PTbr-Enuk". Simply put they have different sizes of the book and I was in the process of re utilizing the text blocks into the new dimensions. I still can open all files on my side, but as soon as I hit CtrlC+CtrlV is over Any work within a give file works, no action between files is possible.
  10. @ Sean P, many thanks! I have just uploaded the file 6,9 is the 'source' file from where I have tried many times to copy the text boxes only to copy into file 8,5x8,5. Finally I followed a tip from forum, to 'import' the pages and then within the same file, I could copy+paste, was of course a bit messy, having 20 pages added to be deleted afterwards, but I could at least finish the assignment. As I have another 8 variations, I am happy if any success in solving the isso.
  11. Thanks, no, I don't have any clipboard management software, the settings on Windows are however as indicated above, 'turned off'. The only object is the text box. Because lines have a particular alignment, and I don't want to redo it, this is the only thing I reuse - it is a multilingual project, so I have to 'combine' different languages, reusing each language individually. About the file, since it is unpublished material, a children's book, does uploading it here means it is available to all in the forum? If so I rather not, for copyright reasons.
  12. You saved my day! I am struggling which crashing after copy-paste, so thanks a bunch for the tip!!! I hope this problem is fixed...
  13. Hi I am having this problem, and frankly I am a bit in dispair, since I have about 20 pages I need to copy parts of it to a derived modified layout. Everytime I hit copy+past, it freezes and crashes. Now, reading your tip, it does not work for me on Windows, cause my clipboard history IS already off. I try 'clear', then I could at least press copy+paste shortcuts, but as soon as I attempted to go to the new document, again frozen. Why this should be fixed on Windows not on Publisher, it is my first question. Then, if there is any workaround, I really need those pieces of layouted content to be reused in different combinations, there is no other way than copy+pasting the text blocks, they have a particular alignment, coloring, I just don't want to redo it manually ... any tip on a smarter way of doing this is also might save me from deadline misery..
  14. wow! I would never guessed to go that way, thanks a bunch! I have spent over an hour looking for a solution to that! Best Regards,
