  1. Thanks @EmT, that looks like it would work great for simple designs, if I do anything with fewer elements I'll be sure to use this method. Regards, James
  2. Hi @NotMyFault - I've used Affinity for over four years and think I understand it pretty well but I've never found a solution for easily making reapeating pattern designs. If you know of a way I can do this please share it with me. Specifically I'd like to make seamless tiling patterns for printing fabric for dresses, etc. In Adobe Illustrator I use this tool:
  3. Thanks for the suggestion @NotMyFault but some of my raster assets are pretty complex oil painting elements with transparency and unusal shapes and I have a lot of them! I'm not really getting anywhere with this project in Affinity, regrettably I think it's time for me to go back to my Adobe subscription. Best regards, James
  4. Hi, Thank you for your comments. I switch beteen Designer and Photo because I need to use tools from both in my workflow. The document was originally made in Designer and then bought into Photo (the screenshot is in photo, hence posting in this section of the forum). The document was made by making the whole artboard a symbol, so that the artboard (and symbols of that artboard) would all look idential and have the same layers within them. I don't like doing it this way, I just don't know of any better way of making these repeat patterns in Affinity products. I can't make the artboards different names, when I rename one they are all renamed together. All of my layers are neatly inside of the artboard, I have the layer that should be visible selected in my screenshot so you can see the boudary box. I hope that helps calrify a few things. Thanks for taking a look, James
  5. Hi everyone, I'm linking artboards with symbols because I need to work on repeating pattern designs (is there a better way to do this?) and it seems to have uncovered a bug. When I use vector and shape layers on the artboard the symbols feature works fine and the layers are duplicated onto the other artboards, but when I use a pixel layer it is not visible, even when it is the top layer within the artboard. Please see the example doc and pixel layer as an example. The only way to make the pixel layer visible is to take it out of the artboard layer and place it directly at the top of the document. Any thoughts on how I can make repeating pattern designs in a smarter way than this, and any thoughts on weather or not this is a bug and what I can do about it? Help much appreciated, James
  6. Hi everyone. Thanks for your replies. I wasn't using artboards in the document. I also opened the file on my partners PC to see if it would have the same problem and it did. We we're both using the latest version. I have tried to recreate the problem but have not been able to do so - I wish I had not overwritten the file after I rasterised the background group of layers. I will try and start my workflow from the beginning and see if I can get the same result. Whilst I'm here, I'm also having an issue where every time I come to the forms I have to reset my password. My user and password combination is saved in Last Pass and I know its correct because it works on https://affinity.serif.com/ just not on https://forum.affinity.serif.com/ - I do occasionally have this issue and its usually because of my unusual email address: james@mosi.ltd - some sites don't like the domain suffix ".ltd"
  7. Hi Garry, Thanks for your reply. No it's not that. That yellow box layer actually does jump down into a lower group when reselected. It's just when I move them with my keyboard rather than my mouse, the layers panel does not immediately update and show the layer still being at the top. I can get the layer to show at the top again on the canvas by pressing "Ctrl" + "Shift" + "]" but when I drag the element on the canvas it falls down into a lower grouping again. I've had to rasterise the bottom layer group so that I can get on with my work but I'll try and recrate the problem later. Perhaps I can share a file with you for testing.
  8. Hi, I have an issue where when I drag a layer (say a normal rectangle) over a group of other layers the layer I dragged then falls into the group of layers below. This happens when I'm moving (dragging) elements on the canvas, not on the layers panel on the right. If I move the layer with my keyboard (shift and arrow keys) the layer disappears into a lower group on the canvas (so is obscured by layers above it) but remains visible as the top layer of the top group on the layers panel. See attached screenshot to see what I mean. I obviously want the layer I'm dragging to just move location on the canvas, not fall into a group of layers below it and disappear - it's driving me mad. Anyone else having this issue? Regards, James
  9. I agree that this would be a great addition, along with 'Transform Again'. I use both regularly in Illustrator (a subscription I'd love to cancel).
