never mind, it works when I set it in the Transform-panel, not in the export dialogue directly, that's OK, all good.

I made a flyer with affinity designer that my client wants to post on social media, that's why I "social media story post" as a layout. Now they tell me they want to print is as well so I need to enlarge it to DIN A4. The dimensions are of course wrong and I need to enlarge it, also convert pixels to millimetres, change the color settings etc. So since (I think) I cannot do both types in one document, I saved the document as a copy and changed the units to millimetre and RGB to CMYK in the settings. So far so good, but I cannot just change the dimensions of an artboard to be width 210mm and height 297 mm, it always jumps back to the original pixel. Please tell me there's an easy way to do this. So I essentially do need to switch to V2 if I want any active support. It’s quite costy and I cannot afford it ATM. especially because who says they won’t just abandon ship again and just create a V3 instead if V2 gets too buggy? I really wanted to like the entire Serif Affinity Suite, that's why I bought it for macOS and iPadOS. Especially because I didn't like the Adobe pricing plans (like most people, I reckon). However, I already circled back to Adobe Photoshop because Photo just doesn't come close, I tried but failed, there is nothing like Photoshop, I'm really sorry. And now Designer, I'm very used to it actually, most of the UI is in my muscle memory already, but now that it constantly crashes and doesn't save and because it's basically discontinued, I'm faced with a pricing plan that makes it very unattractive, €200 (V2 just so I can continue to work?! This should really be free for anyone who already bought V1, of course I don't want V1 if it doesn't work properly…

Any hopes justified they will fix that bug soon?

OK but has Affinity Designer V1 been discontinued? I can't find it on the App-Store anymore and like I said I wanted to and now I did delete it so I can re-install it.

first of all, no idea where to post this really, this is one the few forums that was enabled to select and seemed relevant. I'm on iPad Affinity Designer. Wanted to draw something then join some strokes but every other time I did that, the app crashed without saving. Very annoying, please fix that! I updated my iPad version but issue remained. Then wanted to update the app version (usually you do that first, I know) but the app is up-to-date? I actually found Affinity Designer 2 in the app store, don't know what that it. Why is that not replacing my version? Anyways, then i wanted to uninstall the app and reinstall BUT you need to first save/backup your files. I don't automatically save to the iCloud, but always save to On My iPad and send files to other devices later via dropbox. Here's some feedback on that (if you're interested) - Affinity doesn't backup your files if you save to On My iPad. If you uninstall your app, all your files are gone - Not good - If you want to make a backup of your files manually you have to first change the Default Save Location in the settings to iCloud and then save each file separately by clicking burger menu in the bottom right corner of the file (in the overview) and then "save". - "save" is not saying much and saving one by one is of course annoying - "save" will save to the iCloud and only to the iCloud - Why not other locations like Dropbox? Why not to a backup folder on the iPad? Whatever, I did all that, but when I save the files, every other file saves a backup on the iPad anyway and NOT in the iCloud. This seems random and buggy. All I wanted was to join some strokes EDIT: if I open a file on my iPad and click on Save A Copy I can very well save in Dropbox (so I didn't imagine that part after all and that's how I usually save my stuff) or in Synology Drive. But how come I cannot set that as the default save/backup location.

I have the same issue, both on desktop and iPad. It's annoying if you consider the fact that you cannot set the export size of a PDF. So when I realised the latter, I had to resize my artwork manually before exporting and was confronted with the former issue. Should I post this to the iPad forum or is this the same?

I realise that the accumulated time I waste on two work steps must be a lot. #1 I have a group of vectors and now I want to draw something inside that group but when I draw it, it creates a new layer that is added to the top of the layers list. I always have to move that layer into a group manually. Something I avoid by just selecting the new layer and the group and then do that pinch gesture in the layers panel. That way I end up with a group and the new layer inside another group. Why do I avoid moving it? Because there's time-wasting-work-set #2… #2 if I move the layer manually into the group, the layer is moved to the last position inside that group. I can't remember when that was ever what I wanted, much to the contrary – I want to draw on top so move that new layer on top of the other existing layers in that group! EDIT: sorry, I didn't realise I'm answering to this thread, I though I started a new topic.

I can set up the bleed of a document/artboard, and I can see the guides that mark the bleed. But I cannot see the content of the bleed. Where can I see the bleed's content while editing the document?

I need to print it anyway, so now I'm using an online tool to convert mm to pixels at 300dpi. Ai does that automagically BTW

I'm working on a document in Affinity Designer for macOS. The document is set up as print document. The Document Units (inside Document Setup) is set to mm. However, when I export an artboard as JPEG, I can only enter px dimensions, not mm. Not very sensible. How can I set mm of the end format? thanks for help

on the iPad I can distribute the objects evenly and adjust the space by entering a px number. On desktop, this seems impossible. Thoughts?

I can see the "lock children" checkbox when the mask is applied to a simple layer, but not when it's applied on a group. In the linked thread above it says that this checkbox is somewhere, just not visible but I still cannot find it, making me think that maybe it's not possible for groups? If so, why not? This functionality, i.e. move the mask and/or the layer is IMHO very basic and constantly used and should be made easy and intuitive. EDIT: OK, one thing I noticed which might be a working solution is to have another group within that group and the mask/clipping-mask applies to the outer group. That way you can move the inner group and the mask/clipping-mask stays where it is, since it's applied to the outer group.

Hi Sean, hi DM1, thanks for getting back. I don't think I copied the symbols in one document and pasted them in another one. If anything I just duplicated the document I was working on in order to have some sort of backup in case I don't like the changes or the document would get corrupted at some point for some reason. And AFAIK it only seems to crash with that document and every duplication of it except for the original first version – so that might give you more insights to whether or not just copy-pasting a symbol to another document causes this bug or duplicating a document containing symbols does as well. I also tried to save the document on the iPad instead of iCloud but at this point I don't even have a chance to save it at all, it always crashes at this point. The other day I opened the document on my Mac using Affinity Designer for Mac, did some changes and saved. Now I tried to put it in the Affinity files folder on my iPad via finder. Unfortunately I can't even open that document on the iPad, it always crashes. How do I use assets? Will check on YouTube. Please find the .afdesign file in the dropbox folder. Thanks a lot, Fred

Hi there, I'm having trouble with Affinity Designer on iPad Pro 12.9 inch (2018 model). The app crashes repeatedly when I save or exit a document (which would save automatically) whereupon all my changes are lost. Also, it crashes sometimes seemingly at random. I need to re-use the same graphic over and over because I might want to adjust that graphic later on. That's why I'm using symbols, since apparently that's how Affinity Designer approaches this kind of task (?) After researching online I understand that a known bug is related to the use of symbols. But though I know that, I do not know what to do about it since I do want to continue using symbols. My software version is up-to-date.
