  1. Oh! I didn't notice the attachment. Thank you very much, @Hangman. I'll give this a try. It's really strange that the resolution setting can change for different text frames though. I got the same problems for Publisher for iPad, BTW.
  2. Hi @Hangman I tried deleting, relinking, and reapplying paragraph styles to the texts frames but the same problem keeps happening. Just one question though: why would Publisher paste copied texts or place texts from an MS Word file in 72 dpi, when I already set the Publisher document resolution to 300 dpi? Shouldn't it follow the Publisher doc settings? Writers and copy editors don't usually think of dpi settings when they use their word processors. Thanks again! Best, Igy
  3. Thank you very much for all your help! I hope the bug gets fixed. Specially because, like the problem I submitted here, I work with templates for many of the publications I design. Creating new Publisher documents and redefining everything from my templates won't do. I'll create a new template and see if this still happens. Again, thank you very much for all your help. And I look forward to seeing a fix in the coming update(s).
  4. Hi. I experienced this same problem with v1 of Publisher before. It keeps reformatting the texts as I adjust the layout. I copy the texts from MS Word and paste them into the text frames (the same problem occurs when I place the MS Word file). I've already applied the Body Text style to the text frames and to the paragraphs. I also set the default Notes - Footnotes style to what I set in the Text Frame Styles. You can see the applied formats when I open the document. And then you'll see Publisher cut the text, make the last paragraph 6 pts, and then move it to the next text frame. It sometimes goes back after I reapply the text styles. But when after I do this, it reformats the footnotes. It even hides one footnote (no. 29) and I can't find it anywhere. And then it wreaks havoc on all remaining pages. :( I've attached the screen recording, AFPUB, and MS Word files. Mac OS Sonoma 14.3 on M1 Mini with 8GB RAM. Affinity Publisher Problem.mov 1. 5. Thanks, Thomaso. I understand. It is indeed very confusing and time consuming. But like I said, I didn't apply any styles to the Word file. I even tried exporting it to RTF and placing that. When that still didn't work, I tried copying and pasting. Still the same problem. Maybe it's an issue with AFPub when pages are added to a layout which started from a template? Or maybe it just happens when the original text file had footnotes or endnotes? It happened to my other layouts where the texts had footnotes and endnotes. The problem with plain text is it loses all formatting from the original submitted manuscript -- bold, italic, underlined, etc. So this isn't an option for me. Again, thank you very much for trying to help. Do stay safe and keep well.
  6. Thank you for your response, Old Bruce! IKR! So weird that AFPub somehow gets confused by that one Normal default MS Word style which I didn't even create -- MS Word just includes it when the file is imported in AFPub or InDesign. Is there a way to not include any character or paragraph style when importing an MS Word file into AFPub? The Narrow Non Breaking Space though is set for my Footnote text style. I use it after the footnote number only. Thanks again!
  7. Thanks much for your feedback, Thomaso. The Normal text style is MS Word's default style. I didn't apply it and have no idea how to remove it. It's just there after I insert the Word DOC file into the AFPub. I guess it defaults to No Style which then should remove all applied paragraph and character styles, right? I double-checked the MS Word file for any hidden characters in the place where it reformats but there was none. I even tried pasting in different text (from a different file) and that also resulted in the format resetting when the text flows from page 10 to page 11 (page numbers 82 to 83). I've also tried removing and reinstalling AFPub. I couldn't find this anymore. The workaround I did was to select the reformatted paragraph, apply No Style from the Character and Paragraph Style dropdown on the Context Toolbar (it doesn't work when I tried clicking on the same in the Text Styles studio panel -- another weird thing), then reapply the Body Text style (again from the Context Toolbar and not from the studio panel). I attached the screencap and file of the "fixed" layout. 4 Pernia.afpub
  8. I uploaded the template because that's the one I was referring to when I initially reported the problem. And yes, it only contains 10 pages. Like I said, it seems that the format resetting happens when I add pages. To make the texts I place fit, I added pages. The problem happened in both ways I flowed text to the new pages -- when I used APub's automatic frame creation, and manually. But only to text that was at the bottom of page 10 (the last page of the template) which flowed to page 11 (start of the new pages I added). And yes, I noticed that when I created new text frames, they were somehow different from the ones in my original template. The original text file is an MS Word file with footnotes. It copies and pastes fine when I get it from MS Word and paste it in Pages or in a text frame between pages 1 to 9. I've attached the original MS Word file here. Thank you very much for your help. 4. 9. Thank you very much for all your feedback. I've tested again to try to look for a fix. The text style resetting persists even when I use different fonts and texts (yes, the same thing happened to the other articles that I laid out using the same template). I noticed that this problem occurs when I add pages to the end of my template. My template is originally 10 pages only. For the sample I uploaded, I added a few more pages so the whole article will fit. Notice when you open the document that the text styles are ok until the 10th page. It then starts acting weird when I flow the text to page 11. I've attached the template file here so you can test if you want. I couldn't find any problems in the flow options. Old Bruce, I tried changing the font from Cardo to the stock Times New Roman, and still experienced the same problem. Budyong Article Template.aftemplate
  10. Please see the video. The text style I apply to a paragraph or sets of paragraphs are suddenly reset when they are made to flow to the next text frame. I've experienced this problem quite a few times already. Affinity Publisher 1.9,0 Mac OS X 11.0.1 Big Sur AP_bug,_text_style_reset.mov 4 Pernia.afpub
  11. Thank you for your reply, Thomaso. Yes, they are two subjects relating to text style. They involve: (1) text styles getting lost when I adjust the text flow (create a text frame and adjust the text flow to go through this new frame); and (2) text styles using Initial Words applying at the wrong place (should start at an EN-space but applies even when I just add a line break). Both problems are illustrated in the videos using two files I imported from InDesign IDMLs. I have been working on those two book projects in InDesign and wanted to port them to Publisher. Speaking of the videos, why do they sometimes load and sometimes don't load? I double-checked that all videos loaded before I clicked on the submit button.
  12. Hello? Hmmm … seems like I have to go back to InDesign then.
  13. Thank you for your reply, Old Bruce. Tried what you said. Got the same results. Nothing was reset when I clicked the recycle/rewind/circular arrow. (Text Frame Problem 2.mov and Text Style Problem2.mov) As for the + next to the Style -- I've been puzzling about that too. You've seen the screenshots. I didn't apply anything else to the paragraph. And in the video, you'll even see that I applied the paragraph style selecting the Clear Character Styles option which should've cleared everything. I really want to switch to Publisher but these problems are driving me crazy and they're taking up a lot of my time to apply specific formats (to a 540-page book!) to something Initial Words should be capable of doing automatically. So frustrating. You can see in one of the videos that the Text Style works when I turn Initial Words off. And even after I've manually set the styles, Initial Words doesn't follow the End character (En Space) I set! It resets to the Line Break I insert in the text! As you can see in the Line Break video. 14. Hi, Walt. Here's the second problem. 2. Problem with text frame insertion/adjustments: I've attached two videos (along with 3 screen shots in case you can't view the videos). The first video (SS2 photo) shows how the style gets lost (texts are resized to 1.4pt) when adjusting the text flow / creating a new text frame. The second video (SS3 photo) shows how the remaining texts that flow into the previous text frame also lose their style and are enlarged. Texts aren't treated as bitmap images in Publisher, are they? So resizing text frames shouldn't change the font size. Hope Serif can work on these bugs. All the best, Igy Castrillo Style_gets_lost_when_adjusting_text_flow.mov Following_styles_get_lost_after_text_flow_adjustment.mov
