  1. Thank you for taking the time to work that out for me. I watched the Affinity tutorials and they recommended having a master page for each different feature. So, I had Master A for the margins and bleed and Master B for page numbers and header. I hadn't thought to look at the Layers panel though and as soon as you pointed that out, I could see the same 2 applied twice, instead of once each.
  2. I'm unable to highlight any text, even though the text tool is on. The cursor wants to stay at the top of the left hand page and is happy for text to be added there, but not to anything on the right hand page. Hopefully, I've shown you the right layer part? I'm very new to this so apologies for the lack of knowledge etc.
  3. Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. I exported it to PDF and then spotted issues with the PDF. So I went back to the original APub document to correct them and couldn't highlight any text on the APub or change anything. After much fiddling, I discovered it was because I had accidentally implemented the Master A twice. I assumed it wouldn't matter because it was already there and I'd changed something and then wanted to make sure it included some end pages. I found this by doing 'edit' and 'undo' until I got to the implementation of that master and found that was the action which released it. I have definitely discovered that you can't mess with the Master Pages other than at the start of the project, unlike Indesign which seems a bit more flexible in making changes.
  4. Hi, After creating a document and converting it to a PDF, I needed to go back in and alter something. I discovered that I was unable to work with the text any longer. It's created a nightmare and I've had to go back to an earlier iteration and try to repeat the process. Only to discover that it's happened again. I think I've narrowed it down to adding a Master containing text above the main text box. (I'm a novel writer.) Now, I have another useless document. Has anyone else come across this? I can't work out what's happening.
  5. Thanks guys, especially Efvee for the video. I finally think I've cracked it! Really appreciate your help.
  6. I can't seem to separate my speech marks from the Drop Cap letter for some weird reason. I've watched so many videos over the last couple of days but still can't seem to make it happen.
  7. Efvee yes! This exactly. I could do it in Indesign, but I'm too new to Affinity and it's too complicated to do here. Too sad. I wish I had known that before I bought it. I use it for my print books and it's the only reason I ever used Indesign. Gutted.
  8. Thank you for trying to help me. I seem unable to detach the quote marks from the first letter drop cap and everything just changes together. I'm probably getting lost further up the chain somewhere. I've watched the styles videos but perhaps need to go back and watch them again. Something has gone wrong somewhere.
  9. I was looking for an answer regarding speech marks and drop caps. The discussion got a bit beyond my ability. I've come from Indesign also. I'm wanting to have an initial drop cap, with a speech mark before it. The speech mark can be slightly bigger than the usual font, but I'm not liking the massive speech mark at the very start of the chapter. That's what I would like to fix. Please may I have moron instructions please? Thanks.
  10. I purchased Affinity Publisher and have just tried to download and install it and got 'setup failed' like the others here. I had a trial version back from December which expired, but can't seem to uninstall it. I'm not technical, so this is a nightmare for me. Wishing I hadn't bothered. :(
