[Filling with a selected color...]

I'm having a problem filling a layer with my desired color. (Note: This is sort of hard to describe, so I hope I make it clear.) I created a a layer in my image with black lines. I want to fill the lines of this layer with a color that I picked from another layer in the same image. But when I use the magic wand to select the black lines and select "fill," it won't fill with the color I picked from the other layer. I try both secondary and primary, and neither of them allow me to fill the selections with my desired color.

 

I hope I've described the situation clearly. It's frustrating because it should be simple, and I know it's something I'm doing wrong, but for the life of me I can't figure out what it is. Thanks in advance for any insights!

Dan C and walt.farrell, thanks for your willingness to help! It turned out that I had to uninstall all of the previous versions of Photo, Designer and Publisher; and create a new and empty folder to install into, and then it went fine. But I had never had to do that with previous versions of the Affinity suite, so I wasn't looking in that direction. But all is well now...looking forward to playing with the new tools!

Hey there, I downloaded all three updates for my PC (Photo, Designer and Publisher), but I can't install them. I'm on Windows 7...could that be the issue? I've never had a problem installing Affinity updates previously. Thanks for any information!

Hey there, very excited to download all three updates! I downloaded the .exe files with no problem, but I can't get them to install...I'm still on Win 7. Is that a problem with the updates? Thanks for any info on installing the updates to Photo, Designer and Publisher! I own all three on my Mac and my PC!

You can download and reinstall the apps (via the Affinity Store for the Windows versions, and via the Mac App Store for the Mac versions) at any time. Make sure you log in with the email address or Apple ID, as appropriate, that you used when purchasing the apps.

[Reinstalling Designer and Photo?]

I purchased Affinity Designer and Photo for my PC (and for my Mac) months ago and have really enjoyed using them. However, I need to reinstall my PC's OS (long story) and will then need to reinstall my programs. I hope I don't need to re-purchase Designer and Photo...do I? I checked my PC and I don't see .exe files that I can back up until after the OS reinstall. Any advice is much appreciated!
