It would be helpful if the help file included information on how to access the feature you're reading about. For example, I wanted to learn about gradients and found the section in the manual discussing the Gradient Editor. But I couldn't find the editor in the program. I looked through the menus and finally asked on the forum. I've run into this problem when reading about other features as well.

Sorry, I've never had anyone complain before. I'll avoid that in the future.

Here's a relatively recent list of Google search operators (in the context of SEO, but you can just skip down to the list): https://tinyurl.com/yb7638og.

Photo and Designer

Yes, I can see where that would happen to me, especially if the UI's are very similar (I haven't tried Designer yet) which I would guess they are. -

Yes, I see your point. I guess a Studio product would be a better solution. -
Cool. Now a suggestion: Don't clear the search dialog when changing from one website to another.

Curves Reset Button
casterle replied to casterle's topic in Feedback for Affinity Photo V1 on Desktop
Thanks, Carl. It may be by design, but I'd like them to reconsider. It would be easy to add a new 'Reset Channel' button between the Channel Select dropdown and the Picker button. -

I would prefer that, but as long as I can get from one app to the other as easily as Walt describes I can live with that. -

Thanks, that will work! -
Win 10 x64. Steps to reproduce (release and beta): 1) Add a Curves Adjustment 2) Select the Picker 3) Select a few points 4) Hit backspace to delete the last point 5) The Curves dialog closes and your Curves Adjustment is gone As a bonus you are magically editing the Adjustment that was immediately below the Curves Adjustment in the Layer Stack.

Why do I have to press the spacebar to drag an image around while I've got the Denoise dialog open? When I open the Recolor dialog I don't have to do this. I'm just learning AP so I don't know, but I suspect that this inconsistent behavior appears elsewhere as well. It would be nice if this were addressed.

I've seen lots of threads requesting the ability to save workspaces or layouts. I'm (too) choosy about my layout, so I wanted to find a workaround. Since I use a Windows machine I can't help Mac users, but here's what I came up with. First, this works great for me but if it doesn't work for you I take no responsibility. The settings are saved in xml files in this folder: C:\Users\{YourName}\AppData\Roaming\Affinity\Photo\1.0\Workspaces You'll find folders for each Persona - WindowProfile.xml, Tools.xml and Toolbars.xml. The WindowProfile.xml file contains your panel layout for each Persona. Now, from within AP, in the Persona of interest, arrange your layout. Exit AP and copy the WindowProfile.xml file somewhere else. You can do this to your heart's desire, creating different layouts and saving them in this fashion. Then, when you want to use a saved layout, with AP closed copy your saved layout and replace "WindowProfile.xml" with that file (that is, copy the desired file to that folder, delete "WindowProfile.xml" and rename the file to "WindowProfile.xml". This is, of course, a pain in the backside but it does allow you to radically change your layout for a given task easily. You may be tempted, as I was, to try other things. For example, I wanted the tools that display clipped highlights and shadows in the Develop Persona available in the Photo Persona. It was easy to copy the 'ClippedGroup' item from the Toolbars file in Develop and add it to the Toolbars file in Photo. They appeared on the toolbar but, as I suspected, do not work in that context. Just make sure you back up everything before you touch it and you can always get back to where to came from.

Yes, that absolutely makes sense. I didn't realize that I could do that. Can I then leave the file open in both programs and switch between them to avoid the time required to open the other program? -
Good question. When I open the png file, AP informs me that there is no color profile in the file and assigns my working profile (Adobe RGB 1998). This is the profile I use in PS. I opened IrfanView (the program I used to save the original screenshot) and configured it to use Adobe RGB 1998 for all unprofiled files. Reopening the image resulted in the same screen color values.

Layer Isolation Mode
casterle replied to casterle's topic in [ARCHIVE] Photo beta on Windows threads
That's fine with me, I was just pointing out the inconsistency between the docs and the UI behavior. -
Thank you! That was it. I had to stretch my browser wider than I normally have it to see the 'good' search box. I can't understand why the UI is designed this way - there is no need to swap to a different control on the narrower screen. But even if the designer thought there was a good reason, why change the functionality of the control? Unless the goal is to confuse the user, then the design is outstanding...

This is nuts. Yesterday when I was on the forum I saw the same search options as you guys - with a search text box rather than a magnifying glass. Today I'm back to the magnifying glass! Yesterday I logged out as an experiment and still saw the search text box while logged out so it doesn't seem to be a matter of whether I'm logged in or not. I'm using Chrome on Win 10 x64. When I first started visiting this forum I bookmarked the link. That is how I always arrive here so that can't be what's causing the difference in search options.
