Looking for more efficient workflow

I've been trying to turn models skin and clothing into cash as a learning exercise.  This is my satisfactory result.  It involved many copies of layers and source layer range tweaking to target the skin color that would allow the background image to show through.  Is there a faster way?  Am I doing this inefficiently?  I've mapped out my steps in the image below.  Thx.
