Hi,

I'm doing web/app development. To reduce my dependency on the designers, I'm looking for a tool to do the following workflow:

1.   Open .PSD / .AI file.

2.   Cut out individual elements into new image.

3.   Do minor editing like cropping, resizing and creating masks (that is convert an image with a single color+alpha to white+alpha, so the app can use it as a mask).

4.   Save as individual assets, mostly .PNG but being able to save as .SVG would be a big plus.

I'm looking for a tool that is cheaper than a Adobe CC subscription. I wouldn't mind paying for Affinity Designer even though I probably won't be using most of its functionalities.

The number 1 feature I'm looking for is file format compatibility (only for importing). The designers I work with make large .PSD files and they will be using the newer CC features. They've been using artboards lately which makes opening their .PSD's in previous versions of Photoshop a real pain.

I will be downloading a trial next week and see how their .PSD files import in Affinity Designer. In the meantime, is anyone using Affinity Designer to import .PSD/.AI files a lot and how is that working out? How quick are the Affinity developers in supporting new Adobe file format features?

Thanks.
