  1. Big problem, surely a bug?: Any gradient on any object will render all selection boxes invisible in the entire Affinity suite. It happens 100% of the time, on all files. I can select objects, but there are no visual cues in the Document View window. I've had the problem since I bought Affinity in December last year. It took me a long time to figure out what was happening. I haven't found any solution on Google or in existing forum posts, so I decided to write my first post here. I hope someone can help. Please read my explanation and watch my screen recording. * Recipe: Just add a color gradient to any object, e.g. text or a picture frame. After that, no selection boxes will appear when selecting one or more objects. I can still select objects with my mouse or using the Layers panel (Right Studio). I can see in the Layers panel that one or more objects are selected. And if I use, e.g., the move tool, I can easily move them. But there are no selection/bounding boxes around the selected object(s). This obviously makes it difficult, confusing and frustrating to edit files with many objects and layers. Please note that removing the gradient will make the selection boxes reappear! In short: Any gradient on any object will render all selection boxes invisible in Publisher, Photo and Designer (in both 2.4.2 – the newest version – and 2.3, which I installed back in December). * Screen recording (50 sec) using a new demo file: The demo file has two text frames and one picture frame, all having solid fill color. When I click on and select one or several of them, a selection box appears. So far, so good. As you can see, if I then change the color of one of the objects (the blue text) to a gradient, the selection boxes disappear. As you can see, I can select any of the three objects, but there is no box or outline around any of them. In the last step in the video, I remove the gradient on the blue text and select a solid color instead. Since there are no gradients in the document anymore, the selection boxes are again visible. 1. What Application are you using? Affinity Publisher, Photo and Designer 2. Are you using the latest release version? Yes, 2.4.2 (also happened in 2.3). 3. Can you reproduce it? Yes, 100% of the time on all files using any of the three Affinity programs. 4. Does it happen for a new document? Yes (see demo file and screen recording). Machine, operating system and extras: macOS Monterey (12.7.3) on a 5K iMac (Intel) with 16GB of RAM and plenty of internal storage. No additional hardware, just standard keyboard and mouse. No font managers or display managers. Hardware acceleration? I tried both ON and OFF. The problem persisted. Note: My iMac is working well and I don't have any issues with other programs. I did a fresh install of macOS Monterey in December, just before I bought Affinity. I have very few third-party programs installed: just Affinity plus Firefox, FileZilla and Stellarium (planetarium). Irrelevant background info: I've been following Affinity and cheering for them since 2018. I finally bought the V2 Universal License in December 2023, and I have spent the last few months testing the software and watching a lot of YouTube videos. I've previously used Adobe's software for editing photos, making illustrations, and designing books, but I decided to switch to Affinity. I like many things about Affinity! Sadly, I can't use Publisher for designing books (the text justification is absurdly poor, even with the Norwegian hyphenation dictionary correctly installed and activated). But I really want to make it work for my upcoming wall calendar as well as posters and other "simple" projects. If Affinity is able to show which objects and layers are selected also when using gradients, Photo and Designer will become very useful to me as well. I like both the features and the performance of Affinity. Screen_Recording.mov test.afpub
  2. Good morning or afternoon, I have purchased Affinity 2 of all three products. Lately I have been having issues with node selection. I tried restarting Affinity but it didn't work, and then I restarted the computer and then shut it down and started up again. None of the solutions worked. I am not sure what is causing it. I have provided a video of the issue. Thank you very much and I love your product but just needs a little improvements and then it is perfect. Screen Recording 2022-11-30 at 18.36.59.mov
  3. I photograph and retouch rings and other jewellery. I've bought AP with the intention of getting rid of 12€/month Photoshop. However, while there are (more or less annoying and slow) workarounds for some of the missing features, there are a few things that AP simply can't do, which is rather infuriating because it means that I still have to keep paying Adobe to get them in PS. So here's a list: 1. A way to stroke a curve or at least to use it as a guide for a brush. Every now and then I end up with a photo that looks a bit too flat. To make the edges a bit more visible I create a path (curve) and then stroke it with a soft brush (20-30 % hardness) and then play with the opacity until it looks somewhat decent. AFAIK AP can render a curve but it does not have the ability to do that usng a custom brush. 2. Adding nodes to a path/curve without switching tools. I find AP's Pen tool to be more user-friendly than PS's version. but I'm missing the ability to add a node to an existing curve/path just by clicking on it without switching to a different tool. PS can detect when the cursor is hovering over a path to then create a node without connecting it to the end of the path. I'd therefore like to see the same feature in AP. 3. Double-click on a node to switch it from Sharp to Smooth and vice versa (like PS's Curvature Pen does). Yes, I know there's a keyboard shortcut for it, but it gets annoying when you have to do it every couple of nodes, and double-clicking on a node currently doesn't seem to do anything anyway, so why not use it for that? 4. Crop to selection, i.e. if the Crop tool is selected and a selection active, snap the crop box to it automatically. It's already possible to do this manually (by checking "snap to selection bounding box" and manually dragging the handles until they snap into place), so I don't see a reason why it wouldn't be possible to make this happen automatically. It would save people like myself who need to drop every photo like this a significant amount of time. 5. Fix saving tool settings. Even with synchronization enabled I still find myself having to switch the Inpainting Brush to sample from the layer below it every time I open a new photo. And before doing that I also need to Shift + J to get said Inpainting Brush instead of the Healing Brush. Why? 6. Limit the Exposure Adjustment layer's range. Nobody needs +/- 20 EV, especially when the minimum step on the slider is 1 EV. Make that +/- 5 EV or even less to get more resolution and make the slider actually usable. 7. Make the Noise Reduction more powerful. This is the exact opposite of the problem above. If I have a wristband or something like that with a lot of dust/scratches/fingerprints/etc., I use NR at maximum strength and minimum details to blur everything together on a new layer, then mask the edges and any details I want to keep to uncover the still-sharp layer below. Photoshop can get a decent amount of blur in one go, with AP I have to re-develop the layer 5 or 6 times to get the same result. All but 2 and 7 have been posted before (even 5+ years ago), and at least 4, 5 and 6 seem like they should be fairly easy to do, yet they're still missing. Why?
  4. I just have two questions (and probably more later) 1. how do you temporarily hide selections? in Photoshop, you can do this by pressing Ctrl+H. I often use this feature when i'm painting and prefer not to constantly ticking boxes or selecting something. its much faster if I can just assign a key to it so I can use it on my drawing tablet's express key. 2. when using the color picker, a big sphere/circle will appear in order for me to get a good view of what the color i'm selecting. is there a way to disable this sphere/circle? or atleast maybe reduce it size? cause unfortunately its too distracting as it blocks a large portion of whatever drawing/image is behind it.
  5. Hello, Is it possible to use brush on the one selected area, but the effect to be for all the other selections, like mirroring the brush movement and effect, but inside the different selections? like on the image, this dot to appear not only for the selected area but also inside the other boxes simultaneously. I want to create irregular patterns. Is there any chance I can do something like this without using the symbols? Or Can the symbols be created after the creation of curves, like linking already existing curves and choosing one of them as the symbol? I also tried applying bitmaps to the selection but for irregular placement it's impossible. I'm quite curious what effect does "repeat" or "zero" have? Any ideas, different tools or any third-party software to reach the described results? hope my question is clear.
  6. Good day! I know there is a way to turn this base selection box into a regular selection box. But that's just temporary. Is it possible to keep the regular selection box forever? Base selection box is not always necessary, actually less necessary than the regular one. Any kind of help would be highly appreciated
