I have disabled hardware acceleration in performance preferences and this seems to have done the trick (so far) so many thanks for the advice

When focus merging some macro images the process seems to break down and the image on screen starts to show big blocks or shapes of colour, the process doesn't stop but the final image is just a black blank. This happens with some sets of images but not others even though the camera and lighting set up is the same and the subjects are.... Files imported from Nikon NXD software , Windows 10

This happens with some sets of images but not others even though the camera and lighting set up is the same and the subjects are similar. Seems to happen with both Raw files and JPEGS, if the JPEGS do it so do the raw files
